How mant times have you applied?

Just a question to satisfy my curiosity....

If you have applied to a Nursing Program, How many times did it take you to get accepted?

What state did you apply in?

I am in the California Valley and I have applied 4 times and still have not yet been selected.

I applied at my cc 3 times and was rejected as i didn't have math but now i do and turned in my 4th application last month and expect to hear back in august.it felt soooo great when i filled on my application and at the bottom where it said DOES APPLICANT MEET THE REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS and there was finally a yes there.I am keeping my fingers crossed but don't want to get my hopes up as i can't bear another rejection.Good luck to all.

I'm a little curious about this application thing. I am going to be transferring to a BSN program at a NY school. They told me (via email) that you just need A&P I and II as well as a 2.75 GPA. I will find out full details next week when I meet with a counselor but from this it doesn't seem very difficult to get in... Maybe this is an easy school or something?

Those may be the minimum requirements for admission but when making the selection for acceptance, they usually skim off the top. If that is the case, people with only the minimum requirements never get in. Programs can be incredibly competitive, especially in impacted areas. Check carefully, especially if it is a public school. Sometimes private schools are more lenient, but often come with a huge price tag. Good luck.

This school would be moderately priced (~16k/semester I believe, and I say moderate as compared to the many 40k major universities) but is actually going to cost twice as much as the school I am attending now. My GPA is over 3.5 and I will receive no less than a B+ in A&P I (taking II over the summer) so I have no doubts in being accepted.

Thanks for clearing that up.

It never hurts to apply for placement on the waitlist at other schools if you are waitlisted by your first choice school.

Don't get your heart set on a single school. The law of large numbers applies to admissions. Apply to several schools at a time.

I think that it is important to emphasize in your followup letters to nursing admissions counsellors that you are willing and ready to start school in the event of a last minute cancellation.

I have heard several people say that they have applied to many different schools or are planning to. I was going to do that at first, but I found it would be really hard to do. All the schools around here have different pre reqs, and completly different support courses. I would have to take an extra year or so for each school I wanted to apply to.

I have applied 4 times. I just got a call today from PLU school of nursing here in Washington- I am finally accepted! So very excited.

It is hard, Coolpeach. I have had to meet the requirements of various programs that wanted different courses. A real pain!

For those of you who have applied so many times and not gotten in yet, either wait listed or rejected, what was your GPA?

I have applied to 5 different programs in the 2 years that I have been in the application process. All except 1 is lotto.

My GPA for all my pre-nursing courses is 3.3 which does not include the support classes that I have taken in addition such as Pharmacology, Medical Terminology and Medical Dosage.

For the school that I have been waitlisted I have 257 people in front of me which means that I could be start Fall '09. Due to the large amount of nursing applicants that apply to other schools in the area, I may be bumped earlier depending how many get off the list before they start.

There are 5 schools in my area that have nursing programs in which each gets from 500-800 applicants per school. They accept from 20-70 in each program so the competition is really stiff out here in the Sac area.

I hope this helped.
