How long does it take HR to hire you?

Published

I just got offered a job at a NYC HHC hospital. The interview went great and I got offered the job when I called back to check on my status!! I was told to come down to the hospital and fill out application and paperwork with HR. The recruiter told me it takes HR a long time to process you and check your background and references...

Does anybody know how long I can expect to wait? The woman who interviewed me said shed be surprised if I started work by July. Im just antsy and was wondering if anybody else has gone through the process at a HHC NYC Hospital before????

Also, this may sound stupid, but should I wear a suit to go fill out paperwork or is that part of the hiring process over??? I mean im not going down there in sandals and shorts but......

It took my place of employment a week and a half to get my background check and references completed. The whole process took about three and a half weeks before I even got to start new hire orientation. Also on the day to go in and feel out paperwork I wore business casual kaki slacks and a nice blouse. Congrats on the job!

I work closely with our HR department. It can take several weeks, depending on how easy it is to obtain all the necessary documentation on you. If you are coming from out of state, or your information has not cleared the BON then there is a wait. Also we wait on lab and backgroud checks. Last week a nurse, who had called almost daily about the status of her application, was told she had to come in for the math test. She said she was too busy and would get back in touch with us next Monday. No word on Monday, but she called Tuesday and wanted everything processed while she stood and watched. Obviously her time is more important than anyone else's.

It can take around a month to six weeks depending on circumstances. It can be a very frustrating wait!

ok cool thanks for the comment. Thanks!!!!

It took about 2 weeks total for me. I had my interview on a Friday(and knew the job was mine as I also spoke with the DON), and got the call for drug screen & filling out paperwork for my background check the following week as well as made my ID. I start on this Monday :)

It took almost a month for me to be officially hired at my current job. I had two interviews then had to have my references checked, health screen, drug screen, TB skin test and background checks done.
