I'm curious as to how long everyone's orientation was to labor and delivery. I had a six week orientation for my unit and was expected to be proficient with two laboring patients and circulating for c sections. Does this sound about right or was this too long or too little for orientation to L&D for a new grad?
Mine is 12 weeks for a new grad, which I think is an absolute bare minimum (I did it). It really should be longer. We are a tight unit and there are always other people to help so it was almost like continuing orientation after that but officially 12 weeks was it. They are always trying to shave off every bit they can
Hello to all. Im posting this here as i am a new graduate RN as of May 2008 trying to find a residency program in Labor and Delivery. I have applied to both South Fulton Medical and Southern Regional on the Southside of Atlanta. Does anyone have any advice on which hospital is better as far as teaching and providing a good foundation and pay/benefits, work environment with older nurses etc. Your advice will be greatly appreciated.
