How long was your L&D orientation?
Hello to all. Im posting this here as i am a new graduate RN as of May 2008 trying to find a residency program in Labor and Delivery. I have applied to both South Fulton Medical and Southern Regional on the Southside of Atlanta. Does anyone have any advice on which hospital is better as far as teaching and providing a good foundation and pay/benefits, work environment with older nurses etc. Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

New OB Nurses, Grads and Students, Please Feel Free to post your questions here:
Hello all. I have a quick question regarding an upcoming L&D interview for a residency program this week. I am a new grad passed NCLEX and have an opportunity to interview for a position in the hospitals L&D unit. This would be my first interview so i am very nervous and not sure how to prepare, i have no experience as a tech and the only period i "worked" L&D is during clinicals in nursing school. For those that started out in this specialty area straight from nursing school, what was the interview like and how should i prepare without sounding reheorificed? Thanks

May 2008 grads....how are things going?
Thanks Mommybess- the way they have is scheduled is classroom days are Monday and Tuesday 8am to 4:30pm then two days for 12 hr shifts on the unit. I personally would appreciate the extra classroom time as im hoping to get into a specialty area- L&D which i last encountered a yr ago in Nursing school so i could def do with the refresher. I have not had a job since graduation so i may also be a bit rusty. I think it will be very intense but im up for the challenge. 18 weeks will fly by fast :)

May 2008 grads....how are things going?
Thanks Zahryia- I googled it too and got more information from one of the ladies in the L&D program at the hospital. She loves it and highly recommends it for a new graduate. I have an interview this Thursday for the L&D department at the hospital so im nervous and excited as it will be my first interview for Nursing. On that note, does anyone have any advice on how to answer interview questions particularly behavioral and scenario type questions? Most of the info online pertains to the questions but does not really delve into how to answer them. I get nervous and im hoping it doesnt mess up my chances of landing a job there. The program is very competitive. Hopefully ill be back with great news. Thanks

May 2008 grads....how are things going?
I was not big on med/surg even in school during clinicals... i lean more towards womens health so i thought it was perfect when i found a hospital that has a residency program for L&D. Anyone heard of the Versant RN residency program? Supposed to be real good.

May 2008 grads....how are things going?
Hello to all. Im also a May grad, took NCLEX on Aug 1st and passed, yipee. Still no job, looks like most of my classmates scheduled interviews and got job offers before graduation. I have a possible interview at a local hospital which offers a residency program for several areas. Im interested in L&D but still have that thing in the back of my mind that as a new grad it is important to do Med/Surg. Any advice on that, considering there is a residency program for both areas?

Kennesaw State Spring 2009
I am a graduate from the KSU accelerated nursing program. I started Spring 2007 and finished May 2008- very tedious and busy but rewarding at the same time. I initially had been denied entry despite having got my first degree from KSU. Persistence is important and that is what got me into the program when they had one slot remaining that was given to me. I did not turn back, graduated with honors, passed all my ATI exams and passed my boards first time around in August. Bottom line, do not give up!!! It is well worth it.

Looking for a job in the Atlanta area?
I just graduated from KSU in May from the accelerated program which i must say was well worth the sleepless nights and tons of assignments. I feel like the program has prepared me for a successful career in the future. Plus the tuition is not as high as some other colleges here in GA. I must warn you though, getting into the program is very difficult and they pretty much need all A's.

August2008Support Group!!!
Hey all, i took my boards on Fri and like most people felt like crap and was sure i had failed. Well i got my results today and i passed. Very happy. Dont be discouraged, keep the faith and say a prayer and ask God to guide you to the right answer. Also take your time and read the questions twice esp the once which have keywords like best, least, first etc. Good luck ya'll.

August2008Support Group!!!
I graduated in May and have been taking it easy since.... Have not received my ATT yet but according to my school we will probably be able to sit for the exam in mid July. However i may just schedule it for later in August. Whats your take on this? Is that pushing it too far? Ive heard that the sooner you take it out of school the better. I also cannot afford a review course so i will just read my Saunders book which i found helpful throughout nursing school and i may purchase some questions online. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Good luck to all and congrats to those who have passed.
