How long do companies keep applications on non-hires

How long do companies keep applications on non-hires, and what is their system for tracking non-hire hard copy and computerized applications.

I found this lovely outline on the net:

I also found another bit that suggested 1 to 2 years. I found that if employed personnel documents are kept on file for at least 1 year payroll for 3 years. I imagine it depends greatly on the type of employer. A retail outlet that has paper applications may simply shred the applications after 90 days (was employed by one that did this ages ago) however I am unsure of the specifics.

Specializes in MS and LTC.

With the nursing shortage in America and the amount of unemployed nurses, I would say those companies delete applications like spam and shred paper applications to be made into toilet paper. Just my opinion.

Yeah. Ha. Nursing shortage - Schools crank nurses out like crazy. I expect there will be a nursing shortage to come for other reasons other that the "Baby Boomer" theory. Thanks for your input;)

Non-hire applications are kept 6 months in my area.

Informative. Thank you very much.

My hospital will require you to apply to every new job posting that you want to be considered for even if it is the same unit. It may save you getting filtered through HR.
