How likely am I to get into St. Vincent's College in Bridgeport, CT

Not as far as I know. I had to have the health clearance done when I was accepted (May 2011). I'm moving into the 2nd year in the Fall and there has been no mention of a repeat health clearance needed.

heyy there I am a new user to this site but I've been ready the post on here for while everyone seems so helpful its great... I got accepted to the pre nursing major for this upcoming fall semester the question that has been hanging over my head is let say i finish all my pre reqs this year through the fall and spring semester what are the chances i will have a clinic seat for next fall? does it happen often or has it happened to anyone on here where you finish all your reqs but there are no seats available so you have to wait for the next year to get in clinics? If anyone has any info id love to hear back thanks guys :)

Not sure of your chances. I know plenty of people who were in the pre-major last year and are in nursing this coming semester. I also know people who met the requirement but had to wait until the next semester.

Did you apply for the day or evening nursing class, that makes a difference. Day nursing classes (101) is available for starting in the Fall and Spring where as the evening classes (for 101) are only available starting in the fall. So if, for whatever reason you applied for the evening class and can't get a seat, you'd have to wait until the next fall, whereas if you were a day student, you could get in for the Spring. Does that make sense.

Hello All!

I'm a newbie on this forum, but have been reading posts every now and then, and am now here seeking advice for my self! I recently graduated with a bachelors degree in psychology and have completed most of my pre-reqs that which most BSN programs require (Statistics, GenChem, Anatomy & Physiology 1, Organic Chemistry) with the exception of Anatomy and Physiology 2 and Microbiology. Due to a number of reasons, I've decided not to sit around and waste the upcoming school year of 2012-2013, and have decided to apply to St. Vincents RN program. Although I initially wanted to apply to BSN programs, at this very moment it is too late to apply to most programs, and I'm afraid that because my GPA is low, BSN schools in the CT area will not accept me. Otherwise my plan was to complete microbio/A&P2 at a CC and then apply for BSN programs and be accepted for the fall of 2013.

Anyhow, as of right now I'm in the middle of getting my things together to apply at St. Vincents. I've already completed the brief online application, and received a post card in the mail stating that I needed to have my transcripts mailed into St. Vincents. So that's where I stand as of right now. I was told that there is a high possibility that most of my classes (intro to psych, algebra/statistics,chemistry, sociology & religions and other classes along those lines which are also part of the St.Vincents curriculum) can be transferred over to St. Vincents. Now, I'm wondering if that means that I'd go directly into the RN program instead of technically being a pre-nursing student. Also, I wanted to know that if the people who are in the RN program right now are having a tough time balancing a job, family life, and studying. I'm extremely nervous about getting accepted, for after hearing so many stories from friends who have been through the process of trying to get into nursing schools, I sometimes lose hope for myself If there are students who are in the RN->BSN program at St. Vincents right now who can share their experiences as well, I would really appreciate that! Are you working as an RN while completing your BSN? Did you have a tough time finding a job with just your associates? I apologize for asking a million questions, but I'd really appreciate it if some of you guys could shed some of your nursing wisdom on this little newbie :) Thank you!!

Hey there! I was accepted to St. Vincent's RN program but I declined because I was accepted to NVCC RN program afterwards (because it's closer and I've been going there for 3 years) but st. Vincent's was my back up plan if I did not get into anywhere else. Now st. Vincent's is a very prestigious nursing school to future employers. I've been told by many RNs that went there but they do require a lot more than other associate degree programs. St. Vincent's only accepts a certain amount of your credits to be transferred. They require 50% of your credits to be from st. Vincent's! So if your first choice nursing school is them I suggest you to start there from the gecko. They also require two religions classes and a philosophy class. I highly recommend going to one of their info sessions and they will explain everything there for you. I went to one and it really enlightened me to what they require and expect from you. You can sign up for one online at the website. If I lived closer to Bridgeport I would have gone there. When you graduate don't you just get a certificate and not an A.D.? How does that work?

I went to one and it really enlightened me to what they require and expect from you. You can sign up for one online at the website. If I lived closer to Bridgeport I would have gone there. Actually its only one religion class (World Religions) and one philosophy (ethics). You can take another religion class if you want to use for your humanities elective class.

Hi there!

I'm currently a student at UConn Stamford and after a lot of thought, I have decided to pursue Nursing as my career! UConn Stamford does not offer an undergraduate nursing program so I have been looking at schools around my area to apply to. St. Vincent's College is my top choice. NCC's nursing program is my close second. My goal is to start out by getting my Associates, then if possible, go on to get my BSN later down the road. I am only a junior however I have transferred to over 3 schools. My high school GPA was around a 2.89. My freshman year I went to University of Tampa and received a 2.92 GPA, I then went to NCC for a year and received a 3.5 GPA, however Spring 2012 I went to UConn Storrs and did very poorly due to an experience that put me in a very dark place and made it difficult to concentrate on my studies. I received below a 2.0 GPA and am nervous that my Storrs GPA will jeopardize any chance of me getting into a nursing program. I am in the process of trying to erase these marks from my transcript however I'm not sure if my petition will be granted. I have taken A&P and got an A and took chemistry and got a B. Is there any chance of me getting into a nursing program (preferrably St. Vincent's or the NCC program) with this UConn Storrs GPA weighing me down? In other words, do they look at my previous academic history as a whole or will they solely base their decision on my storrs transcript? Please be honest! I want to know if I at least have a shot!!! :unsure: Thanks!!!!

Go to a ct community college info session. They will explain the application process better. The new process is they only take classes that meet your pre-reqs for the application process. It's possible that your uconn grades won't count depending on what you took. And that a&p grade will definitely help you. Hope is not all lost :)

I want to say mine was a regular sized envelope with the acceptance letter and a couple other sheets of paper.

Not what I'd call a 'fat envelope'.
