How I'm reading my review questions?!

Published

Hi. I have a question. I have been following Suzanne's tips and guide, but in the process I am finding that I have a small problem which actually can be a HUGE problem.

I am going through the questions and choose the correct answer only to find out I read the questions somewhat backwards!!!!!!!! For instance: If it said chose the one that would indicate the need for further teaching I would choose the one they did right. I am leaving out the KEY word to determine what it really wants me to tell them!!! My hubby told me to read the question super SLOW and still once I get on a roll I tend to do it again. Now I already took the test once and wonder HOW many I messed up because of this silliness!!!

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do, how to read the questions without missing a word? I am not dyslexic, dont have any attention disorders where I am super hyper, but I wonder could nerves do this??? Thank you so much in advance.

PS In clinical settings I have never had any trouble reading charts, orders (along side an RN of course), etc.

Please someone must have some type of advice?

I tried ear plugs (the little squishy orange ones) for another certification exam and ended up taking them out after only a few minutes because I couldn't get them to stay put very well. The ear plugs were becoming more of a distraction than the noise in the room.

Also would like to echo what Leda said. If you find yourself saying, 'Wait a minute! All of these are right except one!' - time to go back and read the question again.

Thank you Eric!!~

Yes I used the little orange squishy ear plugs. I was so nervous about the test I just pushed them in and forgot they were even there. It was either those or listen to the other testers tappin away like little mice.....

I get distracted way to easy.

Also let me ask you this question.....How many of you that took the test used the dry erase board? Most of my friends never even touched theirs. I found I used it A LOT! Just to write down some norms like for the acid base questions (and I got plenty of those)!

I do the same thing! My friend told me she read the questions 3 times each on boards really slow, to be sure she knew what they were asking!

I used mine to write down all the labs I could remember right away! I'm one to freeze up on a test and not remember even common knowledge.
