How should I split my classes?

Published

After this semester, the only pre-reqs I have left are A&P 2, Micro, US History, and an upper level psych class.

I apply for my school's BSN program in January for fall 2015 admission. They are apparently only calculating my GPA for entrance from this semester back. Acceptance/rejection letters go out in April, usually. My current GPA is a 3.62 and will most likely be at least a 3.65 after this semester. I've taken Biology 1 and 2, English 1101 and 1102, World History, American Government, Math Modeling, Statistics, Psychology, Sociology, and a freshman year experience class. Currently, I'm taking A&P 1, Public Speaking, World Literature, and Human Development.

So, my question is...should I take Micro and A&P 2 together next semester, since it's a full semester? If I did that, those would be the only two classes I would take. I'd take my history and psych class during the summer. Or, should I take A&P 2 and a history class next semester, and Micro and Psych during the summer? I can't decide...I don't really fancy taking a science class during the summer because it's only 8 weeks, but I don't really fancy taking two major science classes at the same time, even during a full semester because I'd have two labs.

Advice?

summer time crunch isn't fun that's for sure. Let me tell you that I took micro during summer time(8 weeks long) and it wasn't as bad as it sounds. also I took micro by itself since I only needed it that summer. it goes by pretty quick, I think the professor would go over 2 chapters in about 2 days or so. Keeping up with the pace of the schedule is really important to staying on top of your game. studying and reading daily is a must for micro during summer. for lab you should expect to stay for a few hours since that's the time for practicing your skills. I think micro is manageable during summer.

When you register for class see which is available and if you can get a spot in the class. micro was so popular when I registered that the first section was wait listed and thankfully the school added a second section of micro for students to come in

Good luck in whatever combo you choose!

Took anatomy during the summer and really turned out to not be so bad for a five week course, but that was only because the instructor went out of her way to make it that way. Try to find out how the instructors who would be teaching the summer term approach the classes. If you get good feedback, then consider it, otherwise, as a rule of thumb, I would avoid taking either of those in the summer. JMO

I'm taking A&P 2 and micro this semester and so far it's been pretty easy :) it's a full semester though but it's very manageable. I wouldn't want to do those two during the summer simply because I don't like being rushed and I want plenty of time to absorb the material. But that's just me! :)

Taking two sciences together really isn't as hard as it seems. I've done it every semester so far, and this is my third semester. I'd definitely go for A&P 2 and Micro together. It will be a full semester, so you won't be as rushed, and since those are the only two classes you'd be taking, it really won't be that bad. You'll have plenty of time to study between the two of them.

I took A&P2 and micro together along with two humanities courses. Even though I really focused on doing well in my science's I was able to do well in all four courses.

This of course largely depends on you. Be honest with yourself, your time, and your energy. No one will be able to give you better in sight than yourself because everyone has such different experiences!

Great luck to you in your studies, regardless of when you take them :)

I would just take a science class over the summer (alone if possible). I took a 6 week, 5 unit micro course over the summer, and it was good.

Thanks :) I think I'm going to go that route.
