How I learned A&P

Published

To all of you who are extremely worried about A&P.. I was the exact same way. I thought to myself there's no way ill ever make it. Guess what? I made an A in A&PI and II. I even exempted the finals in both classes. So to all of you.... dont worry its going to be fine. As far as memorizing the bones, muscles, veins, brain, etc... I loved it!!! It was actually pretty easy when you look at the bones closley and study them over and over. One thing i did was look at my body (such as my leg) and feel around and think real hard about where everything is located. The femur is the easiest one :chuckle

as far as the tibia and fibula goes, just look at your leg and hold the bone up to your leg and place it where it needs to go. I remember doing this with the fibula, cause at the bottom of the fibula it sorta comes to a point (which is on the outside of the leg or shall i say lateral) and it connects with the tibia perfectly if you just adjust it and study it. The brain is easy too. I was also really interested in it. I think you just have to want it. You have to like it.

Now, on my test we had essay questions where we would write steps in blood clotting etc... That was memorization.

you can do just listen and tape record if you can.

I, too, passed A+P I +II with A's. I loved the class. My best advice to anyone worried about it is just stay on top of things...don't get behind. It's a lot of material but you need to make sure you understand concepts so that you can apply them to many different situations! If something confuses you...ask for clarity here or with your teacher...don't let confusing things make you nervous. Have fun in the class!

I enjoyed A&P as well. What helped me was a great friend who was good at thinking up silly rhymes or acronyms for each odd-ball term that we had to learn. There's lots of material to cover--sure wish they'd allow more time.

Find a good study partner (the kookier the better) and have fun with it. I'm sure someday we'll be standing over a patient and the little song we used to remember the name of "that bone" will come into our heads and we'll have to laugh.

No - you're not ignorant, never feel that way. The only way we learn is by asking questions. :) You are correct in assuming that A&P is a combination class of both anatomy & physiology. Pre-reqs for my college include A&P I and A&P II, meaning we have to take two 4 credit classes, each class covers both anatomy & physiology. Hope that makes things a little clearer. It seems like every college does things a little differently. Some have A&P and then A&P with lab as separate classes, some have A&P separately but with labs, some have A&P separately and labs separately, and some, like mine (online through CCConline) are A&P I and A&P II, both with labs included. It just depends on the school. Good luck!

Sarah, I a considering signing up for CCOonline A & P. What did you think of the course there. I have taken online classes a while and that isn't a problem but is the teacher good and fair? I have had to ask because every once in a while you get one that is on some glory trip and just trying to trip everyone up with impossible questions to answer. :uhoh21:

. Not the usual but it has taught me to ask before I leap.

This is an old thread but I'll add my encouragement to the list!

I'm finishing up A&PI now and loved it! I'm making a 106 in Lab and have the final tonight. My prof told me I can make a 58 on the final and still make an A. I din't know my exact grade in Lecture, but I know it's similar. I really enjoyed the class and feel I have retained most everything I've learned. I think the biggest key for me (besides studying diligently!) was finding a group of 3 girls to be study partners with. We all met at least an hour before class and bounced questions off each other. We came up with some wacky mnemonics and made flashcards that we passed around. I would advise this to any new A&P student.

Best wishes!

So did you take your A & P online? Thanks for the reply.

I would have enjoyed the class and would have had fun learning all the cool stuff if I had a reasonable teacher. He made our lives hell and ran 26 people off. I am going into the final with an A tomorrow but must say that I went through hell to get it! I am so traumatized from the experience with my teacher that I am reconsidering my major and also put A&P 2 on hold. Nobody can understand what we have been through and still go through (final tomorrow) with this teacher. I feel like a beaten dog and desparately need this course to end.

Hi! Sorry, I'm usually not online over the weekend so I haven't been online for a couple of days. I'm not sure of all of the teachers, but mine was awesome for A&P I. I am going to request her again if she is going to be teaching A&P II (she wasn't sure when I asked her) during spring semester. If you want the teacher's name to see if you can request her, PM me and I will give it to you. I found the experience wonderful and I learned so much. I have felt that this class has been very fair, very challenging (in a good way) and overall, a lot of fun! Let me know if you have any more questions. ;) I am going to be taking A&P II and Microbiology though CCConline next semester - I have really enjoyed the format.

Sarah, Thank you so much for your reply. Please send me the teachers name. There are a few of us planning to sign up for this course and we want a good teacher. Thanks again, Kerry

No problem - I will PM you with her name. Good luck - it's a lot of fun! :D

Hello everyone!!! I am finishing my last unit in A&P 1. Holy cow........I took the online course, and I have never had to learn so much in such a little amount of time. We are using the Saladin Text and it is really cool. My workbook has helped me 100% for sure. If you can get one do it......my teacher said to draw the pictures like the bones, muscles, brain etc. It uses a different side of your brain and it really helped me. Finding the muscles, and bones on myself made things easier too. My e-mail is [email protected] if you students in A&P 1 have any ?'s. Dont hesitate to ask either. I will help if I can. I take A&P 2 starting January. UHHHHHHHHH.........lol. Missy
