How I learned A&P

Published

To all of you who are extremely worried about A&P.. I was the exact same way. I thought to myself there's no way ill ever make it. Guess what? I made an A in A&PI and II. I even exempted the finals in both classes. So to all of you.... dont worry its going to be fine. As far as memorizing the bones, muscles, veins, brain, etc... I loved it!!! It was actually pretty easy when you look at the bones closley and study them over and over. One thing i did was look at my body (such as my leg) and feel around and think real hard about where everything is located. The femur is the easiest one :chuckle

as far as the tibia and fibula goes, just look at your leg and hold the bone up to your leg and place it where it needs to go. I remember doing this with the fibula, cause at the bottom of the fibula it sorta comes to a point (which is on the outside of the leg or shall i say lateral) and it connects with the tibia perfectly if you just adjust it and study it. The brain is easy too. I was also really interested in it. I think you just have to want it. You have to like it.

Now, on my test we had essay questions where we would write steps in blood clotting etc... That was memorization.

you can do just listen and tape record if you can.

Thanks. So good to see a positive note regarding A&P classes. I was really worried about it before I got my books, but now I am actually relaxing - it looks so interesting that I can't wait to get started. I think because I am excited about it I will enjoy it and, because I will enjoy it, I might actually retain some of it! Yeay!

Thanks for the great post. :)

Very encouraging, thanks! I agree with you on "wanting it". It makes it a lot easier to like something when you want it first. I can't wait for AP class and have already been looking at which coloring book I plan to use and I don't even sign up for this class until spring semester. lol

Please, excuse my ignorance...

I will be a first time college student this fall; so my college knowledge is limited. I am a bit confused when I read, here, about these A&P classes.

We don't have A&P classes at my school. I'm assuming A&P stands for Anatomy and Physiology. Do you all take them as one class or, for posting reasons, combine them?

I am required to take Anatomy and Physiology separately. If you all are taking these as a combined class I am extremely envious. :chuckle

I am required to take 4 Biology classes(that are prereqs for the next), Psychology and Chemistry. On top of the English, Algebra and History prereqs.

Is this normal or am I just misinterpreting what I am reading here?

Sorry for the hijack. I just didn't want to start a new thread on this.

~THANKS!

No - you're not ignorant, never feel that way. The only way we learn is by asking questions. :) You are correct in assuming that A&P is a combination class of both anatomy & physiology. Pre-reqs for my college include A&P I and A&P II, meaning we have to take two 4 credit classes, each class covers both anatomy & physiology. Hope that makes things a little clearer. It seems like every college does things a little differently. Some have A&P and then A&P with lab as separate classes, some have A&P separately but with labs, some have A&P separately and labs separately, and some, like mine (online through CCConline) are A&P I and A&P II, both with labs included. It just depends on the school. Good luck!

Thanks for clearing that up for me, Sarah :)

My sister who live out in California was surprised that my A&P were together as one class. She said that some of the upper universities wouldn't accept it unless it was a separate course. So she took Anatomy with lab and then Physiology with lab. Here in Michigan it is together.

I loved A&P!

As for the bones....here's a few tips:

Tibia ....big Toe ....that's how I rememembered where the Tibia is compared to the Fibula.

Always remember there is NO such thing as a Tibula.

Radius is a bigger word, so it belongs to the side where the thumbs are, the ulna is on the pinky side.

Always remember it's PROSTATE not PROSTRATE!! lol

Good luck to everyone! :)

I had A&P 1 and A&P 2. Introduction - Special Senses .... Endrocrine - Aging/Death

I used the Marieb book, and we covered both the Anatomy and the Physiology for each system at the same time. Each class was lecture and lab, and each class was 4 credits.

well, my very first A&P test is on Thursday :uhoh3: Everyone wish me luck please!!!!! :) :) :)

I too thought A&P was going to be a challenege. I had a friend that hasn't passed it 2x. I love this class. This is actually the only class I have an A in. LOL!! The other classes are PSY and ENG. Sad ain't it. LOL!! Anyhow I love how yall related the bones. I loved that chapter. By far my fave chapter is the Endocrine System. I don't know what it is about it but its just intriguing to me how the little tissues are what makes us the great beings we are. LOL!!
