How do I get nurse recruiters to call me back?

Published

Hello, all!

I am finishing up my last semester of school and trying to get some information on how to apply to a new grad nurse residency program in other state.

Back in March, I sent the nurse recruiter an email and received a reply that said positions will probably be posted online in June or July.

So come June, I scoured the website for the listings for new grads and more information about the residency program, but I still can't figure out how to apply, or even if I'm eligible to apply yet! So I called the nurse recruiter, left a message with my name and number, never heard back. I called again about ten days later (which was last week), left my name and number and a message....still haven't heard back!

I don't want to annoy the nurse recruiters because I'm afraid if I do, I won't get the job, but what else can I do? Who else can I talk to? This hospital is about 800 miles from me, so I can't easily go down there in person. Has anyone else had similar issues with recruiters?

Thanks,

Pitaya

Have you tried emailing again? Just wondering since that worked the first time.

I have not tried emailing again, because the reply I got the first time was very generic and did not address the specific questions I asked, so I felt that calling and talking to a real person would allow me to get the information I needed. But perhaps I will try emailing again and see if I can get a real reply this time.

Leaving messages unless for a specific person usually lead to dead ends. Once you leave a message you are waiting for them to get back to you and its now on their time. Good luck and just keep trying to call back.

I would email and not call again. Don't be upset by generic replies. You have to remember that right now there are so few jobs for new grads and competition is high. Hundreds applying for just a few open spots. Last time I spoke to a recruiter via email, she said they had over 400 applications for 10 spots. Do you thing she would have time to call back all those with questions You haven't even finished school or past your boards yet. Worry about that and keep watch for new grad listing.

Thanks for the input. It's just frustrating because I think I will have to apply before I finish school as it is an internship program that only has about 2 start dates a year, but on the website, underneath admission, literally all it says is, "Contact Nurse Recruitment" with a phone number and email, thus, they have to expect that hundreds of people will be calling them with questions.

Uh yeah! I agree, try e-mailing. I have always had better luck with e-mailing. Hope you get a hold of someone. You don't have to say why, I am just curious.. why the big move? It sounds like you have this specific hospital in mind so I didn't know if you had some tie to the area or if you just really want to get out of where you are!

It is the only new grad program I know of in the city where my boyfriend lives and where I used to live. :) So I have my heart set on moving back...I only moved away for nursing school!

I have been thinking about emailing the nursing recruiter here at OSU Medical Center in the James Cancer Hospital, but I'm not really sure what to say. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks!
