How do I get an Illinois nursing license ?

U.S.A. Illinois

Hello, I am an RN in Florida and would like to relocate to Illinois soon. I want to get an Illinois RN license, but I don't know where to start. Will I have to take the NCLEX again??:uhoh3: Help me!!!

It took me 8 weeks, start to finish. The application process was dreadful (my school of nursing said "you need what?") and it was 4 weeks after I mailed everything until I found out online I was licensed. The hard copy came a week later. So I guess that makes it 5 weeks! :)

joanekiser,

You might be looking at a week or two added to your wait time with the holidays coiming up. I would suggest you send it certified mail so someone at IL BON will have to sign for it. Good luck on your process.

Quickbeam,

I'm licensed in three states both IL and Geogia have the worst process ever. One would think with all the technology (NURYSY, eclectonic fingerprinting and etc...) BON's would make it easier on nurses.

thanks for the advice!!

Are you supposed to call to get the fingerprinting form? If not, where do I find it?

I am also applying for endorsement. I am already licensed in CA. Do I need to submit another fingerprint form? Or can I just send proof of my CA livescan?

fingerprinting must be done within 60 days of your application.

to: tiny babyRN: if you download the application papers (sorry i don't have that link) they list a whole bunch of places where you can get livescan fingerprints done.

60 days of the temporary permit or the endorsement application? I'm trying to get my temporary permit first. Then get the endorsement documents sent in while waiting for the temporary

oh....i'm not 100% sure, i applied for permanent license, but it makes sense i guess that all that might be waived (?) for the temp. license....

Ok thanks. I know you have 6 months to complete the endorsement once you get a temporary license. I wanted to send in the temporary since I'll have to wait awhile for all my documents from school, previous employers, and my nursing board. Hopefully I have everything. It seems like they could look up my fingerprints on the DOJ then I can get IL fingerprints when I move. I just need a temp license before I can get a job and move. So stressful

it is stressful!!! and my previous employer laughed when i asked them to fill out the paperwork--they said have them call our toll-free number and get an automated response. hope that flies in IL.!!!

Well hopefully they accept my application without the fingerprints. I can't get a hold of anyone at the department.
