How do I get an Illinois nursing license ?

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hello, I am an RN in Florida and would like to relocate to Illinois soon. I want to get an Illinois RN license, but I don't know where to start. Will I have to take the NCLEX again??:uhoh3: Help me!!!

I am in the process of applying for IL licensure.... HOW REDICULOUS! This is the 4th state I will have gotten licensure in and this is by far the worst. Not to mention I can't get through to anyone in the dep. of professional reg. to ask a question about anything. So far I am not too impressed with this aspect of Illinois!

dear pedsnurse11,

i think IL is the worst!!! had i known it would be this hard, i would have stuck to practicing in cali! it was either NY or IL and sadly i am in IL.

anyway, firstly, they want you to have a current license where you were educated at (i was educ in asia). and then although i passed the nclex here, they still asked to get my educ credentials verified separately. what a pain! and yes, no matter what time or how often you call, you have to hold for at least 25 minutes for your call to be picked up by someone. really frustrating to say the least! but good luck. i am still waiting, hopefully not too long anymore.

maimai 47,

I live in Texas and I'm planning to move back to Indiana soon. I wanrt to apply for an Illinois license by endorsement but I cannot find the link to do so on the IL BON website which by the way is one of the worst websites ever! Can you please tell me where is the application link?

Thanks,

the website? goodluck!!! hahaha

the ony way i got the application form and all that, was when i patiently called them and waited until someone picked up my call.

after that, i was sent an application packet by post.

if you were educated here, and have a current license where you graduated nursing, it is easier.

call the technical assistance unit 217-782 8556.

be patient.

good luck!

joanekiser,

I should be getting my IL license any day now but it's been nearly 4 weeks (once I completed all the necessary application requirements which was a task in itself). I visited Indiana last month and once I landed I got myself electonically finger printed near Midway airport. Doing so moved the process along faster becasue the finger prints go directly to the IL state police who does the backgroundschecks for IL BON. I would suggest doing this if you plan to visit IL before applying for your license. The agency charged me $59.00 and it only took fifteen minutes. FYI not sure how far you are from IN but I applied for and received a license there as well the process wasn't nearly as daunting. If you have any other questions please ask. Good luck!

thanks! i already did the fingerprints (for school) and the background check is done...did u get a temp or permanent license?

i have a Mn. temp licnse and need IL

I did permanent since I already have an Indiana license. Did you get finger printed in IL or MN?
