How do I find a list of accredited online adult NP programs?

Published

Hi group,

I just joined. I have completed my BSN and now am searching for an accredited adult or family practice NP program online. I do not want to have to take the GRE nor do I want to have to do a thesis. In addition, I am hoping to not have to travel for schooling since I have a family and I need to try and stay put. I know that the family practice NP program is very competitive to be accepted into so I am looking to try and find an adult NP program. Is there any place I can find a list of NP online programs?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I was gonna suggest USA also, check it out. usouthal.edu. Highly recommendable. I hope to be starting spring 2010, but have colleagues in the program already that love it.

Look at allnursingschools.com for a list. I graduated fron SLU with an ANP. My advice: get an FNP. You are more marketable and will have many more job opportunities. I had to go back 4-5 years later and get a FNP Post Master's just to be competitive in my area. SLU is fine, but expensive.

Was your ANP for adult NP or Acute NP? Thanks for the advice!

It was for the Adult NP track. They also did not require a GRE or thesis at the time I went a few years ago.

I am a student at Frontier school of midwifery and family nursing and I love it. They offer a MSN-with family practice nurse practitioner, womens health nurse practitioner or nurse midwifery. It's a great school. www.midwives.org Good luck in your search. :)

How strict are USA and UAB on their "experience" requirements? I think USA wants 2 years before starting clinical coursework, and I think UAB wants at least 1? Any comments?

92mxMom,

I've read a few of your posts in my search for info on South Alabama's clinicals. I used to attend USA in hopes of doing the BSN accelerated program when I was an LPN. I was Waitlisted #75 and my usa advisor basicly said pick a new major or start taking prereqs over to get A's in them if you want to get into the Nursing classes. (I had moved from Virginia Beach to Mobile to get the BSN) I ended up just moving an hour east to Pensacola and getting an ASN from Pensacola Junior College. Now I'm hoping to go back to USA and apply to the RN-BSN and then MSN programs. My question concerns clinicals. I keep reading that you choose your own APN for clinicals in your home town, but I am now located in Birmingham (I've moved multiple times in the past few years for my own education and my husband's as well). I do not know anyone who works either as an advanced practice nurse or at any of the listed clinical sites for that matter. I know there are many clinical sites in and near Birmingham. Will USA give a list of preceptors/clinical instructors, or help a student find one if they do not know of anyone in their hometown??

Hi group,

I will post again since I haven't received any answers to my first post. I need your help!

I am currently enrolled in University of St. Francis it is online. I have to go to Joliet, IL for one weekend during my assessment class. They have both FNP and ANP. It is a part time 3yr program.

Specializes in Plastic Surgery, ER.

i_ i never saw your previous post asking what my concentration was. i am in the fnp program at usa.

jenhen82, you are not obligated to use the sites listed on the website, at least not for msn. i did not do my bsn there. i did mine at vcu in richmond. i live near va beach. we can find our preceptors anywhere except inpatient units at the hospital. and we only have to work with one np, so that leaves us open to docs as well. i am trying to find np's first though.
