Hello, please help! I don't want to work in a hospital. I would rather work in a doctor's office or even a nursing home due to the hours. I can't work 12 hour shifts. Please tell me....how do I find out how to apply to a RN position for a doctor's office or nursing home?

Can I please ask you why you don't wanna work in a hospital???

You look for positions in doctor's offices the same way you look for any other jobs. Go to the various employment websites, especially craigslist, Job Search | one search. all jobs. Indeed.com, monser.com, and CareerBuilder.com Jobs - The Largest Job Search, Employment & Careers Site

. Look for what you want. If you do not see any job listings, you can always get a phone book and start cold calling or going in person to offices seeking employment. Good luck.

can i please ask you why you don't wanna work in a hospital???

the op cited her reason as not being able to work 12 hour shifts, which is what i think most hospitals have, depending on where she lives

I found my office job by looking in the paper. I see quite a few jobs from time to time on Monster.com and the local newspaper. Good luck!

The health system where I live has a clinic where some of the specialties are based, including family medicine and ob/gyn. It's on the same campus as the hospital, but they are run much like a doctor's office with business-type hours. There are also other facilities in the system, such as a dermatology clinic, etc. Your area may not have something exactly like this, but if you look at a hospital's job postings, you may find that there are certain departments within that offer the sort of job you're looking for.

OP, not all hospitals only do twelves! Look for eights, or ask when you interview. LTC can be just as daunting, actually more difficult as many would say.

Physicians are reluctant to hire due to the economy as well. Often they can make due with an MA, so don't toss all your eggs in that one basket. Also, unless a "clinic" an MD will want a nurse who is quite experienced. He will not "train" you. He would want you for your expertise to do what nurses do... so you can add to his practice. In many cases you will be drawing on previous experience as a nurse and have to establish yourself on your own if you enter into a physician's practice.

I found my nursing home job by looking up what was in my area on the internet, then I called each place and asked about any openings they had for nurses. I found two jobs this way. I work 24 hours at one facility and per diem at another to give me full- time. Good Luck. LTC may not be a hospital but I've learned a lot about disease processes & wound care & they have paid for my IV Certification as well. Plus in this economy they gave me a sign on bonus!:)

Just an FYI... I don't work in a doctors office exactly, but it is an urgent care clinic... I still work 12 hour shifts! I don't have a single 8 hour shift... I work two 12 hour shifts, a 7 hour shift and a 9 hour shift. I like this because I get 3 days off every week, and a 3 day weekend every other week. Anyways, there are a lot of hospitals that do 8 hour shifts, just do some research!

I would like to know how much nurses get paid in doctor's offices. Is it the same as the money you make at a facility or a hospital? I'm kinda interested being an office nurse since it's less nurse-patient ratio, less stressful and less liability.

Thank you for all your advice and insight everyone! Cebuana I understand the pay is significantly less than a hospital but I think there are a lot of positives to compensate for that as long as you don't mind the pay cut. For me personally, I don't have a choice right now as I am a single mom and I don't have anyone to watch my daughter when I would do 12 hour shifts, every other weekend, and every other holiday!!

Cakegirl -- Do you like working in a nursing home? Can you tell me if the pay is lower or higher than in a hospital? What does your job include there? I used to work in a nursing home and I loved it (as an aide). I happen to really like the elderly...so I am interested in this. Please let me know if you can
