I'm debating taking Mirco during the summer. It will be 4x's a week, 4 hours a day for 6 weeks. I only work on Sundays but I do have a 14 month old :redbeathe. I have a strong A&P background (massage therapist) but I've been out of school for awhile.
Thanks!!
I'm nervous about all of these classes, micro, A&P.... I am taking dosage and calc and intro to health in the fall but then when I start with Micro and A&P I'm taking them one at a time. I work full time nights already and I stress when going to school because I want 100 on all my work. so it's my fault really.... but I want to take my time and get a great GPA so when the time comes to apply to the nursing program I'll get right in.
I like the instructors who demand a lot and expect high standards from their students. The professors who are easy on you and accept shoddy work are doing you no favors in the long run. My micro lab professor had a rep for being a battle-axe; however, all she asked was that we keep up with our work; come to class having actually READ the required chapters; understand the experiments and procedures we were performing and properly record our results. Yes, she kept us on our toes but I actually learned from her, unlike the lab professors I had in A&P I and II, who were so lackadaisical that we never even DID most lab exercises, and were never around to explain or answer questions.
This.
My micro teacher was the head of the science department, and completely busted our a**es in class. She told us that she did not give grades, we earned them. We all had A's to begin with, it was just up to us to keep them.
The other micro teacher at the college simply gave away grades, from what I was told by her students. She did not expect them to read the labs; she simply told them every lab period exactly what to do step by step. There was no learning involved.
Micro is a tough but fascinating course, which I enjoyed. It's very in-depth and hands on, but if you keep on top of the reading and assignments, I think you'll like it. :)
I'm kind of disappointed in my Micro class. It was just memorization. He pretty much expected us to memorize all of his lectures word for word and regurgitate them in essay style tests. While some concepts became a little clearer, I can't really say I learned anything in depth. I'm taking the lab over the summer. Maybe that will be better. I am relieved about not having projects and papers to turn in, though. :)

I'm taking micro and a second quarter of a&p.
First, I think micro's easier for some reason, maybe more interesting.
Second, I don't think the a&p background is necessary, just a general bio background is good enough.
