Hello,
My name is Alyssa and I am a nurse in ontario Canada. My boyfriend recently has found a job in California and we will be moving in January. As a nurse here I would need to write the NCLEX to be able to work in the States. I cant find a sponsor anywhere. when you write the NCLEX you need a social security number and to get a job you need the NCLEX but to get a social security number you need to find a job . I am having so much difficulty with this. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Alyssa

We typically refer people to talk to lawyers who specialize in this. Good luck to you.

Not enough details, please elaborate a bit more to better assist and yes, depending on some of your concerns/answers may be best using an immigration lawyer.
Are you of Canadian citizenship or ? Is your boyfriend of what citizenship? How is he coming over to CA for work (SS#, work visa or ??) Do you guys have plans for marriage in the near future? How many years of paid hospital experience do you currently have?
My boyfriend and I are both of Canadian citizenship, he was recruited so I am assuming the place of hire is getting him all of that paper work. We were wondering if we got married would it make the process easier? I have 5 years of paid hospital work experience full time in Medical, Surgical, Emergency, Oncology and Nephrololgy and I am Peritoneal Dialysis trained.

What visa is your boyfriend getting? You would still need to meet state requirements and pass NCLEX. You do have option of TN as long as you have BSN and can find employer willing to go this route. You will need pass in NCLEX, not necessary for license to be issued, visa screen certificate from CGFNS and letter from employer confirming employment

All RNs in the US must sit the NCLEX.

In order to answer your questions, you need to give more information.
1. What type of visa will your boyfriend be going on? This determines whether marriage would help you to get a dependent work visa or not. For example, if he's going on a H1B visa, marriage won't help at all as an H4 dependent visa is not authorized to work.
2. You do not need a SSN to take the NCLEX exam. For most states you do need SSN to have a license issued.
If you plan to find a job and get your own work visa:
1. Apply to the state you wish to work in for licensure by examination and follow the process to become licensed (which includes sitting the NCLEX exam)
2. Talk to hospitals in that area and find out if they will hire you on TN visa (if you have a bachelor degree in nursing)
3. Apply to CGFNS for Visa Screen Certificate
