So how do you go about finding a place that will pay for your tuition? Even just some of it. Would you just call and ask? If so what do you say.
I got my paperwork from my local CC, and i showed my husband, and he asked if i found somewhere to pay for it, because he cant afford to.
So in other words I NEED to find a place that will help me out w/ the funding.
I'm pretty open about anywhere to work.
Thank you so much for any info yous may have. :)
9 times out of 10 they only pay once you are actually accepted into the nursing program... a good way to start is to have a CNA at least, then if the hospital won't hire you directly, they do allow their volunteers to be placed in the career track programs too. Check out every hospital and nursing home employment benefit section on their website, you can as call around to the HR directors for info as well.
Hi, I think I'm in the same place Mom.Heart is in. I would like to start my pre-reqs in January but don't know where I can find financial aid for this. I would be going to our community college but it seems financial aid by way of "fafsa" will not be available except for the following school year. I checked out fafsa.ed.gov and the deadline for financial aid for the 2007-08 school year was July 1st, '08. I can apply again in January for the 08-09 school year but that seems like so much time wasted at least as far as getting the pre-reqs started. I'm studying at home from books I've checked out of the library and if funds do not become available, then that's what I'll continue to do until I can attend classes. But, if there's any way I could attend pre-req classes this January...wow!, that would be ideal! Any ideas??

Unless something has changed, I think you can file your FAFSA at any point in the school year. I know the first year I went back, I filled it out in April for summer classes. Give the financial aid office at your CC a call. I'd also make an appointment to speak with someone in your scholarship office.
Best of luck!!
Peace,

CuriousMe,Do you mind me asking how you got so much scholarship $$? I have some loans in place but Stafford won't cover it all and I hate to do private loans.
Thanks!
I'm getting a good amount of Federal grants, but I applied to several private scholarships that were offered in my state. I worked closely with my scholarship office so that I could apply to scholarships that were the most closely matched with me and didn't just look at just nursing school scholarships...in fact my biggest scholarship is not for nursing school at all, it's a scholarship for folks pursing a Bachelors in any field.

Thanks, that's interesting...I need to look at general scholarships too I guess. I can't get grants since I already have a B.S. It just scares me to get into debt, but ultimately I'll be much better off.
Are you currently employed? If so, have you checked to see if your current employer offers tution assistance or reimbursement? If so, you can do this while working on your prereqs.
Also, go to your school's financial aid office and they will assist you ...definitely better than your husband can. You can get grants that don't have to be paid back..but this depends on you income. Also, community college is not very expensive, so if you have to take out student loans you will definitely be able to afford them once you get your degree.
As a benefit, some hospitals have tuition forgiveness programs, but you will have to wait to be employed in order to receive the benefit of this.
I'm not employed.
I'm going to try and get in a cna program at a nursing home near me, but they only do it once a year, and the class just ended. but she said i could submit a resume anytime, and they'll get in touch when they're ready again. I'm thinking if i get in there then they might pay for my other schooling also.

I'm just planning on starting my pre-reqs in january. but my hubby told me i better look into it now.
i just need to meet w/ an advisor first and figure everything out. Maybe i dont even need to worry about this until i'm done w/ my pre-reqs.
