  1. I'm not employed. I'm going to try and get in a cna program at a nursing home near me, but they only do it once a year, and the class just ended. but she said i could submit a resume anytime, and they'll get in touch when they're ready again. I'm thinking if i get in there then they might pay for my other schooling also.
  2. I'm just planning on starting my pre-reqs in january. but my hubby told me i better look into it now. i just need to meet w/ an advisor first and figure everything out. Maybe i dont even need to worry about this until i'm done w/ my pre-reqs.
  3. I haven't applied for financial aid, my hubby thinks FA is a loan that you have to pay back. Maybe I should just wait and see what the admissions person says at the cc. I'm guessing they would be able to give me a list of places to try and get sponsered for. I haven't even met w/ them yet.
  4. my hubby doesn't want loans, or can we afford one. How do you go about asking if they will pay for schooling if you work for them? I don't wanna sound rude. :) I have to go to my scheduled visit, and see what kind of grants I can get I suppose. I'm just so happy about doing this. And I know it might not be another year until i actually start the program, with getting my pre-reqs done and all.
  5. So how do you go about finding a place that will pay for your tuition? Even just some of it. Would you just call and ask? If so what do you say. I got my paperwork from my local CC, and i showed my husband, and he asked if i found somewhere to pay for it, because he cant afford to. So in other words I NEED to find a place that will help me out w/ the funding. I'm pretty open about anywhere to work. Thank you so much for any info yous may have. :)
  6. In other words, I want to go to my local community college and take my pre-reqs so I can go into nursing school! The RN programs around here are at the local CC, and two local hospitals (one in my county and one in a neighboring county). I'm so excited about this, and it's driving my crazy lol. I was on my local CC's webpage, and requested an information packet for the practical nursing program there. I don't know how long it takes for them to mail them out, so I'm waiting patiently. I'm still undecided to go for lpn then bridge to rn later. Or just go for my rn right off the bat. I figured I have time to debate w/ myself til I have my pre-reqs done. They're practicaly the same pre-reqs for both programs. I'm 26 and have been a stay at home mom since I was 18. I have three children ages 8, 6, and 2.5. So I do have my hands full. But I really want to do this, also thinking about taking the cna program while I'm taking my pre-reqs. Unfortunately only 2 cna programs near me, the one at the nursing home right down the street from me will only hire you for the night shift, and that just doesn't work w/ my family. And the other one I might try for at the local CC. :heartbeat This forum, it's so informative!
  7. I didn't think it was that short of a course. I was thinking more like 6 months. lol. I really should look into doing that. thank you so much for your information!
  8. Thank you for replying! :) About how long does the cna course take? Just curious. I'm guessing I could just ask about that when i do sit down w/ someone at the school about attending.
  9. Hi Everyone. Brand new here. :) So I've been thinking about starting some kind of nursing career for the past 9months to a year. And I finally decided to try out our local community college. What my question is, what does the Practical Nursing certificate mean? What is my 'title' when I complete that? What kind of jobs could I get w/ that certificate? Would I be able to apply to any health jobs while taking the program, if so what kind? I realize I have to prereq's before I start the program. Oh and I wanted to mention I've never gone to any college programs before. I requested an information kit from the schools website, so hopefully I'll get that soon. I really need to know if we can even afford me to go. Will they help you out to get funding or are u on your own to find it? Here is a link to my local community college program: http://www.racc.edu/Academic/programs/pra_93.aspx I tried searching this forum, for my questions, but i couldn't seem to find any direct answers. :) Thanks for any help! :heartbeat
