How far do you guys drive to school?how much was your tuition?

I was wondering How far did you guys travel to your school and how much was the tuition for your school ?

I found a school about 36 miles from my house and I also found a school 15 miles from my house but the tuition is very different. One of the school 15 miles from my house is 27,000 and the farther one is 20,000.

Is it worth it driving that far?to get the cheaper school or it's ok to take the closest one but more expensive one?

I am still confused whether to take Respiratory therapist or Lvn the school im talking about is for LVN.I really want to work in the hospital but if I take lvn I might be working in an LTC.

I am in a BSN program that cost 1769/semseter (approx) and I live 56 miles one way from the school. It takes me a hour and 10 min to get there. The school that is 10 min away is 7000/semester  . I just cant do that....

I am in a two year ADN program. I decided to drive to a farther campus and get done six months earlier. It takes me about an hour to get there. The boring drive is not my favorite part of the day, but at least gas is becoming reasonable again. My tuition is roughly $1200 per semester. Last semester, my books were over $500.00 and my uniforms were $300.00!!!

32 years ago I drove 30 miles one way to go to nursing school. It was the closest one to my home. Then the gas crisis hit (this was 1973). I found a very cheap motel kind of apartment to stay in. Eventually, I moved to a studio apartment and got a weekend job working at a nursing home. I was getting a school loan as well. During my long drives I listened to tapes. Our nursing lab at that time had a lot of information on cassette tapes and we could have duplicates made for 10 cents each.

I lived 93 miles from my school one way; therefore, I was driving 186 miles every day 5 days per week for approximately one year. This is the reason why my screen name is "The Commuter". It took about 90 minutes to get to school each way. I am glad to say I completed the LVN program on October 14, '05.

My school's tuition was $20,000 and I financed the entire amount with a Sallie Mae student loan. I quit a well-paying job to return to school full-time, so I was unemployed and living off a mixture of savings and state-issued unemployment checks during the school year. The money was barely enough to pay for my monthly mortgage and utilities. I sold my house 3 months ago and have since been living off the profit of the sale until I earn licensure.

How do you apply for unemployment checks?you could apply even if you quit your job and decide to go to school?how much were you getting I am from southern california also

Click here to get more information about filing an unemployment claim, but beware, because they won't approve you for benefits unless you had a really good reason to quit your job.

I had a good reason to quit my job because I lived 125 miles away from my work site. The law judge agreed that my commute was dangerous and time-consuming, and that I had a good reason to resign. I received $1600 per month in benefits for about 5 months, and then the state cut me off. The reason why I got $1600 monthly from the state was because I was netting $3300 monthly at my last job. You'll receive roughly half your pay.

Wow, that is a long commute. Good for you for sticking with it and completing the program!

Do you mind my asking which school you went to?

I'm about to start at Concorde in San Diego... I also will have to finance about 1/2 of it.

Thank you! :)

I went to LVN school in the greater Los Angeles area, more specifically the east San Fernando Valley. I attended Casa Loma College in Van Nuys.

Good luck to you at Concorde. I hope you succeed at becoming a nurse someday.

:nurse:

I'm an odd one, tution was free, and the drive was about a 2 block walk......of course the 8 year US Army commitment enlistment was a major factor in all that :smackingf oh, i did get a nice free green uniform too :p .

I am amazed at how much school cost for you'all though. You can get a LVN degree in San Antonio Texas for less then a few thousand (roughly $1,500 around '96). Three semesters, 300 per semester, added 300 for books and stuff.

Whoa! I'm 'guestimating' that she drove a distance of about 500 miles. :uhoh21:

Good guess

Total Est. Time: 7 hours, 53 minutes

Total Est. Distance: 552.31 miles

...from mapquest.

If I remeber her story right she would have to wait 6 months to get a slot in El Paso, and SA tuition was much much cheaper, she told me a breakdown, added cost of waiting and cost of driving and all, and it was cheaper to do the weekly commute. FYI, i have inlaws in El Paso, that is one really really boring drive.. I live in Lubbock now (going to Texas Tech) and only make that drive with plenty of books on tape at hand.
