How far do you commute to work?

Hi all. I'm a new grad RN (May 2006).

I resigned my first job as an RN at a small community hospital close to home at the end of my orientation period (7 weeks). Without going into detail, I'll just say that it was crystal clear that 'we' were not a good match and that my license would be in jeopardy if I continued to work without appropriate training/preceptorship.

So, here I am looking at other hospitals (very closely!) and I'm wondering how far people commute to their jobs. Many of the hospitals that I find attractive and seem to have good reputations for training and development of new RN's are pretty far away.

Thanks!

17 miles and a 30 minute ferry ride.

Total time - about 45 minutes in the morning to work

and about an hour home due to more traffic

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I live in IL also and work for a private practice. Depending on where I have to go:

35 minutes 25 miles south

1 1/2 hours and 70 miles north

1 hour and 53 miles east

Like above poster said - it is very dependent on what they offer and what you will tolerate.

Takes me about 20 minutes to get to work.

A couple of minutes...I am about 3 miles or less from work.

Sixteen miles door-to-door...all highway!

one block north, 6 blocks east!!! These are "city blocks" entire city 2 miles wide - 1st St to 24th St. Actually walk it in nice weather/daylight takes less than 10 minutes.

Less than a mile, less than a minute . . . .
