You are reading page 2 of How far in advance do you get your class/clinical schedule?. If you want to start from the beginning Go to First Page.

I was given my class syllabus on the first day of class. Depending on the professor, I would sometimes receive it maybe 2 days before class via the online student portal. The clinical schedule was emailed to us 1 week before the start of the quarter. I hesitated to write it in pen in my planner because there were ALWAYS at least 3 changes to the clinical schedule before we even started.

We were not allowed to preregister for nursing classes. When school started, there was a big mandatory meeting where clinical placements were figured out and enrollment was arranged. For our final clinical, we submitted three choices, but it still was determined at the dept side of things, not by the student.

It also depends on the facilities your school uses; sometimes they change things at the last minute, or have other scheduling problems. Short notice is fairly common in my opinion.

Many schools point blank tell you ahead of time you have to be available whenever they tell you to be, short notice or not.

One of my clinical sites was changed from night to 6am in the morning and at a hospital on the other side of the city. They called us and let us know the night before. Everybody still managed to show up, oddly. I think we were all used to the chaos by then.

Seven weeks prior to clinical days, but it could change anytime. I wouldn't stress it.
