this is much beter posted in the International forum

I found my hospital through a recruiter that advertised in one of the UK nurse journals. I preferred this route more than agency as I had more control where I ended up. With agencies I have known them offer various places but when the time came there was no places available in the areas the people wanted to live.

I decided where I wanted to work before I applied to schools. The hospital that had the most patient-friendly culture, based on my family's experiences, was where I wanted to work. It was a clear choice. I learned that my choice of employer had a diploma nursing school attached to it. I checked out that school and found it had the best reputation in the area among working nurses for turning out RNs that were most ready to enter the workforce. Then while a student, I worked as an aide and a unit secretary at that hospital. This is backwards from the way most student nurses do it, but I hate doing things by accident, and if I know what I want and have the chance to design my path from the start, I'll take that opportunity.

I found the agency that brought me here to the US through a friend. This was way back in 2000. I don't know where she got this letter inviting nurses to a job fair in Cebu. So we went. Some representatives from different hospitals here went over there to do interviews.

I guess I was just lucky it was a legitimate placement agency. Well, I felt I did not risk anything because they did not ask for ANY amount of money from me. So I just went ahead with it and gave them a copy of my pertinent papers.

They did honor their side of the contract. Housed me free for 3 months. I got the hourly rate stated in the contract. They also reimbursed my expenses for the tests that I took (TSE, TOEFL and NCLEX).

The only thing that turned out different was I ended up working in Texas instead of Florida as originally planned. See, the agency is an in house agency for this Hospital System here, and they have hospitals all over the US. At that time they already sent some nurses to Florida and Texas needed nurses, so they asked me where in Texas I want to be. I chose the city where my sister in law was at that time.

they have a website that you can visit. I don't know if they still are hiring from the Phil. and of course the retrogression. :uhoh21:

Good luck on your venture.

hi musee,

can you PM me? hahaha... I don't know how:lol2::lol2::lol2:

then I'll just reply on you PM.;)

The first agency I had was based in CA, they don't have an office here in Manila. They were nice and they would pay you everything, filing, lawyers fee, etc...(during this time I already passed all the exams) and they are willing to pay all the exams I had taken.... They were fast in filing and all that paper work.... but unfortunately, I140 got denied because of "ability to pay". I decided to withdraw my contract with them since I don't want to take another risk with them and time is running...all those wasted months!!! Schedule A was just about to get current during my denial of I140.:scrying:

And so it took me a while to select the right agency for me, I want to be sure this time. I ended up hiring a lawyer.... I was directly hired by one of the hospitals in CA. BUT, I will be the one to shoulder all the expenses. It's fine with me, lots of advantages compare to agencies, like salary, years of contract....
