I am really interested in a whole bunch of different types of nursing. At first I wanted to be a geriatrics nurse because I love the elderly, but then I found out they don't really get paid that well. I realize money shouldn't be on the top of the list when choosing a career, but I still think it's important. I also thought being a forensic nurse would be interesting, but I'm not to sure how fond I would be of working in a prison if it came down to that. How did you decide on what type of nurse you wanted to be? Did you always know from the beginning or after being in school for a while did you just figure it out?
I've always wanted to be a Labor & Delivery nurse!!! Growing up in high school, I used to watch all the baby shows on Discovery Health Channel, and I used to ask my mom, "what kind of nurses are those, because that is what I want to do!". lol I wasn't able to really take it all in until the end of my senior year when an RN in my congregation took me to work with her for a couple of days. She snook me in to a couple of deliveries and I was just amazed at how beautiful the process was and how special it was to see such a sweet and perfect little human being. I realized at that moment that this is were I belong. I also had a WONDERFUL L&D nurse when I had my son, she was amazing, and that fueled my fire even more.
I want to be an L&D nurse so that I can gain experience for one day becoming a CNM. Anything mother/baby or NICU would work too.
I came to this decision after the lovely homebirth of my son with a CNM. After having my daughter at home, it reaffirmed my decision. I have such a passion for childbirth that I couldn't imagine working anywhere else.
Sometimes people like different kinds of specialties as long as you love what you're doing, and you really do it, and not for the money. I really want to help women, elder, and children, and younger people that's why I choose to become a nurse. What will make me a good nurse is wisdom and education and experience. I do love working with babies, so it's a passion for me.

I was absolutely sure that the ER was exactly where I wanted to be - until I saw the Cath Lab in action. That was amazing, too! So I've decided to just sit back and enjoy the ride and not worry about making any decisions at this point and try to stay open to everything. There may well be many more things fascinating that I've never even considered!
