I work at a hospital that most of the RN's look down on me because of me getting a BSN and be a male. How do I deal with that?

PLEASE tell me you did not say that to them??? Are you a nurse yet? Have you passed your boards??? Let me say if I told that by a student "I will be your boss and I will praise you for all the hard work you do", I would choke on my coffee.

We had one student who was in a BSN program who was soooo sooo braggy about when she graduates she will get a day shift job, or she will be on the road to mgmt etc etc etc. Well she never could pass her boards. She now works as an Admin assistant answering phones, with a Bachelors in Nursing.

Respect can only be earned.

~~~I just looked at your prior postings and your still in school, you have not even finished yet alone sat for NCLEX yet, you want respect--sounds like you need to give respect for those who have completed and are actually working as nurses~~~You can learn alot from a working nurse.
I dont think we will hear back from the orginal poster, I think he was just trying to get his 15 posts in so he can email suzanne for her study guide tips on how to pass NCLEX
I'm a PCT and a student nurse, and I would be seriously and vocally "ticked" :argue: if that was said to me or any of my coworkers and I would have more than choked in my coffee!:chuckle That has to be one of the most narcissistic things I have ever heard. Pass your boards, work your floor and prove yourself..........then come talk- I would bet you are singing a different tune. I work with nurses who have ADN's, BSN's, and MSN's. We are all nurses, we all get along, and I can honestly say I have never heard a floor nurse criticize another floor nurse for having a lesser degree, nor have I heard an ADN insult a BSN degree wise, etc. We all complain about people being lazy, etc. but that has to do with the person, not the degree they have. There's bad apples in every bunch, no matter what letters you put after their name. I can only hope that as you get some experience, no matter as a tech, RN, RN BSN, or whatever.......you come off the pedestal you are on and respect people.
The title of "How do you deal with mean nurses" is not remotely what you posted about..........but here's an idea. Be nice to them. If someone is mean to me, I am generally just nice back.........keep being nice and you would be amazed.........most people come around and are nice back. Treat others as you wish to be treated has been said for a zillion years for a reason.
And if that doesn't work.................just be nice, accept that they have a different personality, and move on. Do your job, interact politely when necessary and forget about it. If they are out and out rude, speak to them privately, go thru the necessary channels, etc. but I have only seen it happen a few instances where things got ugly, management had to be involved, things like that. Mean people are everywhere, that's life, not just in nursing. :twocents:
I would just smile at them :)
I agree with KCPCTRN2B,
most of the nurses I worked with never knew I had a BSN, and for all I know they all had one also, IMO that is not important in the work environment as far as patient care and why we are there.
i agree, u didn't mention in your first post that u r going 2 b their boss. do they know this? and if they do r u constanly "reminding" them? that's just like my supervisor who has her BSN, does not go around letting us all know, we already know. and she knows that just because she has a BSN that there r a lot of us who have way more experience than she does and she respects that. so make sure u aren't coming off as the "big I little U" attitude.
opps, hit thanks by mistake on your original post.
I'm shocked that the RNs are treating you so poorly. That's horrible!
