My current manager is very supportive but in my previous job working twilight I could barely get time off for mandatory and any courses I was on were in my own time during the day, what use to tick me off was that when I did the diabetic course for instance,it was one day a week for six weeks,so I had to not only sort out childcare but I would finish the course 4-30 and then start work 6pm yet the day nurses were there in work time and didn't have to work their patient visits that day:angryfire

Nursing times this week comments on major survey which shows continuing professional development has fallen over the last 2 years. How is it in your area of work? DO you get enough or just the mandatory ones?
My last job I was fortunate to get more or less what I needed as long as plenty of notice was given and would benefit both my employer as well as my development. Not that I would do something I didn't want to do. Saying that though in my job previous to last job due to staffing levels/targets and a few other issues we really struggled to get anything extra to the mandatory unless we used our own time which I sometimes didn't mind but do feel there should be give or take on both sides but found it was more take than give. Just wondering how things where in other areas
