How 'bout breast reduction

My aunt had it done, since the weight on the front was wrecking havoc on her back. She wishes she had done it years ago. She no longer walks hunched over, no more back pain, and no more 'permanent' strap marks on her shoulders.

I am so afraid this may be an option for my daughter at some point. I am only a small B cup, but at the ripe age of 13, she is already in a D, with NO signs of slowing down. She hates the big "old lady bras with 18 clasps", so we found some really supportive sports bras at JC Penney for her, but it seems like every 8-10 months she outgrows them. She does have a small weight problem, which we've been trying to work on, but I know that won't reduce her that much when she starts losing. This is all breast tissue. I know she's embarrassed, and I know it won't be long before her back hurts 24/7. She had to take Advil after each of her basketball games this season. :crying2:

Does anyone know of reduction for teenage girls? I know whatever is done they'd want to wait until she was finished growing, but I also don't want her ability to breastfeed (a big concern of hers, believe it or not, probably because I'm an advocate) decreased.

I breastfed my two kids AFTER my reduction. It is individual. The doctors will want your daughter to be finished growing for the most part BEFORE doing any surgery. But I had it done at a VERY YOUNG age and NO regrets years later. Your daughter sounds like me: DD by 14. It is miserable, lonely and humliating, not to mention painful. She has my total empathy. Poor gal. Look into reduction surgery when she is a bit older, closer to 18 or 19, I would think. But you can ask your family doctor about it anytime to get his/her recommendation on this.

I wish I had had a breast reduction in my 20's as advised. I, too, thought I would want to breastfeed babies...ended up having no babies. And at 52, I have been told that I have "significant deterioration of cervical vertebrae". My doctor says that this is due to the weight I have been carrying on my shoulders for 28 years (I was a DD at 14). I will have it done, as soon as I can convince my stupid insurance company to pay for it. They are saying it is not medically necessary!

Thanks to all who have replied - I am going to my doctor today and will be asking about it...hopefully he can give some useful insight - he's a new doctor of mine and well, if he tells me I dont need it or some other crap then well I know what I will do (especially with his already Nazi-like policies that I have to see him as my OB and other fine print)

I thought it was my choice...

anyway...I hope that I will be able to get this done sooner than later as seems to be the consensus...

Thank you for your replies. I do feel so badly for my daughter. She deals with it well emotionally, but I know she doesn't like it one bit. I know the only thing we can do right now is to make sure she always wears a good, supportive bra that fits well. Luckily she's not a sloucher - you know, trying to "hide" them or anything - so I know that will help her back some too. Hopefully puberty will quit on the poor girl soon!

I remember the very first bra I got was a B cup - then it was a C then a D then DD, (and they havent stopped there BTW) it just seemed liked they kept growing and growing

I was put on birth control at a young age (16) to regulate my hormones since my sz's occur around my periods and they figured if my hormones are more stable - well, I would have less sz's - and it worked (with addition of meds)

I dont know for a fact - but I think the Pill has made them bigger...all that estrogen and all...(and made me gain weight)

It seems like now they have stopped growing (finally) - I am 23 now...but they did just keep getting bigger.. :uhoh3:

Hi, I too was well endowed as a teenager/young woman, (16DD) but I though it fantastic, I was never without a boyfriend! I was lucky enough to marry the right man, and breastfed both my children. I then decided to have a breast reduction for my 40th birthday (by then I was an 18F). Now I feel as light as a feather and as free as a bird.

My daughter is well endowed as well, but she doesn't feel self conscious, maybe because she is at an all girls school, and there are other girls there who are also large. Anyway, she has no thought of having a reduction as yet. She plays basketball, but she doesn't really run!!

What ever the future brings I will support her in what ever decision she makes.
