HELLO ALL!!
I have cruised allnurses.com and done countless internet searches but still have yet to come across the answer to my question of: How to become an certified RN health coach??
I am very interested in this cerfication but I am not sure the BEST and MOST REPUTABLE way to do so. Yes, there are many threads on allnurses.com pertaining to this subject but instead of finding any answers all I have found is that members are pm'ing each other there responses as if it is a secret society So if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance!

I've never heard of a "certified RN health coach."
I may be mistaken adding on the certified portion.... but I none the less I am interested in becoming a health coach.... And when browsing threads see other RN's refer to themselves as RN health coaches???? Any information that anyone has just on becoming a health coach will be a push in the right direction for me thanks :)

I also have never heard of this, but a quick google turned up this site:

It looks like they're just trying to get you to pay a chunk of cash for their training program, but it's a nice site with lots of information. Even the "National Society of Health Coaches" is pretty strongly pushing their own training program:

Maybe you can find some helpful things on one of these two links.

There isn't a particular program for RN certified coaches. However, there are a few good programs. I have taken Wellcoaches, and in the middle of Wellness Inventory. I am not advertising for either one, (no monetary thing here), but they have good programs. We really are already educated as to how to help people with their health, the missing link for me was to learn HOW to get a client from point A to point B. It really is all about letting the client set their goals, and not you telling them what to do.

If you are still interested in becoming a Nurse Coach you might check Barbara Dossey's program, or Linda Bark, or many others who are teaching nurses how to manage this important, emerging role in nursing. You might also go to the holist nurses' certification corporation (ahncc.org) and vote on their poll. They are trying to establish nursing's interest in coaching.

They didn't really answer your query did they? I'm thinking what you really want to know is: 'Exactly what is a RN Health Coach?' and, 'Exactly how do I become one?'
2 simple questions that should elicit 2 simple answers.
I would like to know also. What's the big secret?

Well I am a CCM (Certified Case Manager) and my job in a big health plan is requiring CCP now. I too did lots of research on this subject. Well the National Society of Coaches seemed like kind a scam like juliaann mentions. They are a for-profit that sells a health coaching program developed by a home care nurse and some other people which is strange. Then there are the Wellcoaches, which was primarily for fitness trainers, developed by someone from business, with no real experience or training. Duke has a program which is pretty good, but I cannot go take the classes and afford all of the costs. So the HealthSciences CCP health coach and Registered Health Coach certifications seem the most credible and used by the most companies, they lots of experts on faculty from Mayo, Cleveland Clinic that do these free sessions each month, and their people are certified MINT trainers and specialize in health coaching and behavioral medicine. You can check out the learning collaborative Population Health Improvement (PHI) Learning Collaborative | Health Coaching and Motivational Interviewing (MI) Training and CCP Certification from HealthSciences Institute or the Registered Health Coach credential Registered Health Coach Anyway, my company decided to use them after interviewing several. So them or Duke I guess.
