How to become a CNA in a hospital:

1. Become a CNA

2. Apply for a job in a hospital

Hospital jobs are much harder to come by, especially these days, so chances are you may have to start out in long-term care for awhile.

Hosp's want you to have experience. Unless you know someone who happens to work in the hosp.

not true, I just graduated and passed my state test and I am currently being offered a position at a hospital in the telemetry unit. I don't know anyone working there. I am in NY.

Specializes in ICU.

I agree with Monters - not only did I get a CNA job in a hospital with no experience and no connections on the "inside" - they also paid for my CNA training and gave me a bonus once I passed CNA and started working on the floors!

I've since transferred to the cardiology department, but I still work at the same hospital, over 2 years later!

It really depends on your area and what the demand looks like for CNAs. To the original poster - look online at the locan hospitals and see if they're advertising for CNAs, then apply! Good luck!

hi again!

although the hospital would be great, its so much more laid back at the LTC facility and 4 hrs less per shift. Plus the reimbursement is a BIG PLUS!

only 30 minute lunch and two 15 min breaks for a 12 hr shift- thats what I get for the 8hr shift I do now..crazy!

any luck for you with a hospital job?

I said want. Not require. Difference.

And i do know that hosp's will hire with no experience but they are not always easy to find.

The hospital I worked at would not hire a CNA without at least a year of experience, so that really depends on where you live.
