Hello,

Is anyone applying to HCC for the upcoming fall semester? I just recently turned in my application.

How long it takes to receive blue card from txbon? We have second orientation schedule on 31st July. So if we have to submit background chk on our 2nd orientation do u think we have enough time?

I applied for my blue card on July 12 and I didn't receive it until the first week in September. I called the BON during August since I felt it took a long time and haven't received anything. They told me that they sent it out about two weeks after I requested but that they would send another one out. Then when I finally received it in September both cards came so I'm not sure if the mail was holding onto it or what.

So y'all have an orientation this week then another at the end of the month?

Keep in mind that some students had to wait for their blue card about two weeks to two months.

Soooo... What's the difference between the two orientations?

Just out of curiosity... Is everyone here waiting for approval of pharmacology or to actually start the program in the fall?

This may make a difference on the answers that I am providing.

Both dates are mandatory to attend. I m not sure what they are gonna be like. I have completed my pharmacology in spring'13 and I will be starting the actual ADN this fall hopefully if everything goes as planned. I haven't received any instructions regarding the background checks or physicals.. Just the immunizations and CPR card information.

I turned my app in on June 12th and I am waiting on conditional acceptance and approval to take Pharm this fall for the Spring 2014 ADN start.

Ok gotcha! Who ever is starting the ADN this fall... Yes both dates are mandatory. You don't show, they give your spot away. During these orientations, we were suppose to turn in all of our paper work (immunizations, blue Bon card, physical) they give you a book list on what to buy for the program and they give you the reading assignment for class. My advice, read ahead.

Yea you'll receive an email to take pharm and go from there.

Hhhmmm interesting. They wanted us to get all of that before the first day of actual ADN program. They actually sent us an email when we were conditionally accepted for pharmacology to get it (bon blue card/background check, CPR, immunizations, physical..) Done while we were taking pharmacology.

You are part of the Spring 2013 batch right? Did you guys start the new scheduling where the classes are split in the semester. In orientation they told us that our first two classes in the semester would last only 8 weeks, and then the rest of the semester would be the third class. Have you guys done this? If you have, is it challenging having split semesters?

Yes I'm part of the spring 2013 batch. And yes we dealt with 8 week courses... Not my cup of tea at all!! It makes the course harder since you have to push 16 weeks full of info into 8 weeks. You have exams every two weeks and have to keep up with the reading at the same time!! It's freaking insane... This method really had people on the border from passing and failing... Don't expect them to pass you if you are one point away from passing. It's pretty brutal.

We started with 150 in pharmacology, ended with 79 in the beginning of the program. Then after the first 8 weeks of class, we ended with 65.

I hope they change this back to 16 weeks and not 8. It's pretty killer.

So the first 8 weeks you'll have Fundamentals in Nursing and Health Assessment. Second 8 weeks is just clinical rotation.

Can anyone help with the Fall Classes? Registration is coming up and I don't understand the schedules they have posted. Foundations says Mon and Tues 8-11 and then 5 Wednesday times for 8-12? And Health Assessment has a jumbled schedule as well. Any help please :)
