40 yr old with GED. Is a MSN even possible?
I just graduated with my ADN last week and I'm 41 years old! I plan to continue with my BSN starting January 2017. I graduated from HS in 1993 and worked in the clerical world for 20 years. I started my prerequisites in 2011, worked part time, and have two young children. Nursing school is not for the weak! You definitely have to have discipline. If you want it bad enough then you'll make it happen. There were students in my program that were in their 50's. It really all depends on you! Prove the nay say'ers wrong!

Need Advice on where to begin????
Hello All, I am in need of some advice/guidance regarding job placement after graduation. Here's a little background on myself: I am currently an ADN nursing student graduating in May. I have been a PCA for 3 years, 2 of those years for a magnet facility. Before that I worked in an office for a home health company as a scheduler and payroll officer for 4 years. This will be my second career in life. I am an A-B student and an officer for our student nursing association. I plan to continue with my BSN next January. Here is what I need advice on: I am considering a Versant program through a smaller hospital that I have completed two semesters of clinicals at. The Versant program consist of working 2-12's and 2-8's for six months. There is a required 3 year contract. The pay for Versant is mediocre however I'm sure the experience is worth it! My concern is being stuck at the same rate of pay for 3 years. I have also considered just working a home health position so that I can get some experience and then moving onto an acute care facility so that I do not have to sign a contract and can possibly negotiate better pay, however my concern here is I'm afraid I may lose skills in doing so and then not be able to get into an acute care facility due to lack of acute care experience as an RN. What do you all recommend? I don't want to sound like it's all about the money because it's not! However, I do have mouths to feed, backs to clothe, and health insurance to think about. Thank you in advance for any guidance!!

Lonestar 2014 Fall Hopefuls!
Pharm is very time consuming and a lot of material to cover. It is however very interesting and can be done. I highly recommend taking it solo or with a non-science based course. I think it should be a 4 credit class instead of 3.

Lonestar 2014 Fall Hopefuls!
I am so ready! I am currently taking Pharm right now. I still have history and government classes to cover before my BSN but have everything else done. That really stinks about the 1 point difference! I took the TEAS-V and I have been told that the HESI is easier so I guess I'll find out soon. Going to get a study guide to go over during the winter break. Really praying that I get in for July.

Lonestar 2014 Fall Hopefuls!
I think you can only choose two but I may be wrong. I will go for North Harris as my first pic and Montgomery as my second. Still need to take my HESI and I have two classes that I am going to bang out in the first 8 week session. Pushing it to the deadline so we'll see how it goes!

Lonestar 2014 Fall Hopefuls!
I too have had a long road and will be applying to North Harris and Montgomery during the next application period. I have not taken my HESI yet but will after the holidays. I am currently at HCC and was accepted into their program but I can not make their last minute orientation dates. Sooo...I am moving on. I have been going at this for two years now and am ready to get it done! Then I'll finish up my BSN with UT. Good Luck to you!

Hey Pamela, I parked at Garage 8 at Holcombe and Pressler. Only a block from Coleman. It's $6 a day. Not bad at all. Just allow yourself time to park and walk.

Houston Community College Fall 2013
I was looking over the TMC parking brochure and there is another garage at Holcomb and Pressler that is $6 per day. It is Garage 8 and is only a .29 mile walk to Coleman. I'll be parking there this semester and will figure something else out for next semester.

I would love to ride metro but I have two kids to get to school and it would take me twice the time to do that due to where I live. I will check into the TMC parking. Thanks!

Houston Community College Fall 2013
Class was pretty much introduction, descriptions of what we will be doing, expectations, and a review on how to use the mynursinglab and Edose. I parked directly across from Coleman and it cost me $10.00. I am looking for other suggestions for parking. @Pamela, Leave early!!!! I made it with 5 minutes to spare and left my house at 7:20am and that was with relatively decent traffic. I think this class is going to be very hard but a lot of fun too. I love our professor!

@ pamela, we could start a study group! Too bad we're not on the same day. We could have car pulled! Traffic was CRAZY all the way there and all the way back. Lol. I'm used to being in my little box out here. But I know it will be well worth it!

Houston Community College- Pharmacology in Fall 2012
I purchased a bundle package which was the book with mynursinglab for $157.00. Then I purchased the one year eDose subscription for $60.00 at the West Loop Campus.

Houston Community College Fall 2013
3 for me! I had to drive down to the West Loop campus for my other class and decided to see what my drive would be like since I am driving all the way in from Montgomery. I made it in time after getting my kids on the bus and that was with really bad traffic the entire way. Glad that is no longer a stressor for me. Good luck everyone!
