Hello everyone,
I have started a thread for anyone who will be applying for Houston Community College ADN Spring 2016. Please add any questions and or comments and hopefully we will be able to exchange information here and keep ourselves positive on our journey to get accepted into the nursing program. I can't wait to hear from everyone! I haven't taken my HESI A2 exam so any pointers would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Hello all,I was in the Fall 2015 thread for HCC's ADN program. Just a word of advice, APPLY TO MULTIPLE SCHOOLS IF YOU CAN! I made the mistake of only applying to HCC's program for the fall. I got a conditional acceptance letter, took care of all required documents(shots, titers, cpr, background check etc.) way before the deadline, went to the first orientation and was told by one of the advisors that if I received conditional acceptance and finished all documents I should be fine. Well that was not the case. I received an email on 8/15 (classes started 8/24 so basically one week before school started) stating that I was not accepted. Other students who had the same situation as me were told they did not have enough clinical space for everyone. We were given the chance to fill out a reactivation form but I am not sure it prioritizes my application. I would hate for this to happen to anyone else because I was so upset that this happened to me. I turned in my reactivation form because I figured why not try again? Since they notified me so late it was too late to apply to any other programs for Spring acceptance. I am not trying to scare or worry anyone, HCC might do things differently for the Spring but just keep your options open. Thankfully, there was still quite a few classes open for this Fall so I was able to register for classes toward my BSN. But in the mean time, I will be going through the same process again for Spring so we will see what happens.
I wish everyone luck for the Spring!
Hello there. I read the thread last night and was wondering what happened to everyone that received a conditional acceptance letter. I am sorry you are going through this but do not lose hope. Continue taking courses towards the BSN. I am applying to a BSN program by December because I didn't want to lose time even though I applied to HCC as well for Spring. I don't think that is fair they did that to people letting them know at the last minute because I had also read thy accepted folks that hadn't completed all their pre reqs and vaccines etc. I do know they didn't have enough clinical space for everyone and that was one of the reasons they weren't accepting many and also because they are no longer accepting 100 plus. It still should of been handled a different way. So I wonder how will this play out for Spring being that they will have a tremendous amount applying for Spring for those not accepted for Fall and those wait listed then the ones like me who will apply for Spring. That's crazy!
Yes it is irritating to me that those who were not finished with everything got accepted. I had everything done, including my classes, my GPA was okay (3.5) and HESI score overall was 88%. Oh well, I guess we will see how it goes for the Spring.
Also not sure how they are going to handle it with all the applicants from this semester applying for next. I have so many unanswered questions

I would strongly suggest that you apply to other schools.
I went to speak to advisor today and they said There MIGHT not even be a Spring program for HCCS and they STRONGLY encouraged me to apply to other schools! I am definitely applying to other schools. I didn't realize how serious this was until some other person mentioned it here.
Again I apologize for that happening but look at it this things happen for a reason. Now I have to retake my HESI to test on the Vocabulary and critical thinking portion which I was planning on doing anyway and I am already enrolled for 2 courses this fall. Hang in there.
Trying to apply to Lonestar, but I'm not sure they'll receive my HESI in time. Apparently if you took the HESI for a different school, they won't except a copy of your transcript. They want it sent directly from HESI. Argh! Didn't know that, so if they don't get it in time will have apply to be (hopefully) admitted NEXT fall, along with San Jacinto and Wharton.
Am still continuing classes that follow UT, PV A&M, TWU's BSN programs. The reason why I really wanted to get into an ADN program is I need to start working.
I might need to look into a CRN course pretty soon.
Sooooo stressful!

If you don't mind me asking where did you take your HESI at because I would like to go take it where I have options what sections to take. If that is even allowed. For instance when I sign up for HESI test they only open the sections the school wants you tested over. So I do have a choice to take all sections do I have to take all the sections or can I just skip them. Not sure how that works.

I believe it will depend on what school you take it at; I took mine at Chamberlain and did all sections except Physics and Critical Thinking. I'm probably going to end up taking it again to get a high score (mine wasn't bad, but higher scores don't hurt!) and to do the critical thinking section, which a lot of schools seem to be requiring now. I believe if you go to the HESI site https://evolve.elsevier.com/ you can sign up to take the test at a general location and select which sections you need to take BUT I'm not 100%. Maybe someone can help out with that question.

Just curious, Have you applied to Chamberlain? I'm thinking about going that route. Was their HESI hard?

You can email me at [email protected] and share if you don't mind what was on the chemistry and biology portion of HESI. I just want to know will the HESI book suffice as far as studying or do I need more books.
Thank you
