Houston Area New Grad Internship Applicants for Summer 2014

Hi everyone,

There doesn't seem to be a lot of current threads for new grads who are in the process of applying and interviewing for new grad internships so I decided to create one so we can all connect and share info about the process and what's happening! So if you've interviewed or applied to anywhere in the medical center (Ben Taub, TCH, Memorial Hermann, Methodist, etc.) or any of the other peripheral hospitals in and around Houston please feel free to comment about your experience so we can all stay updated and help each other through this stressful time! Also any advice from new grad internship alumni would be greatly appreciated!

So far I've applied to Harris Health, Memorial Hermann (TMC, Katy, and Northwest), Methodist (TMC and Willowbrook) and The Woman's Hospital. I've received two interviews from harris health but still waiting on a final decision. I also received an invitation to match day at memorial hermann in the medical center. What has everyone else been up to and has anyone else received interviews or heard anything?

I applied to Harris health and had my interview. So I'm waiting on a decision as well. I got invited to TMC Hermann match day and St. Luke Woodlands. Good luck to everyone. I've applied all over Houston so hopefully something soon :-)

I job search almost daily....I'm not a new grad, but I've seen several residency openings on indeed.com. I also know home health and clinics often hire new grads.

Tip: apply EVERYWHERE! Competition is stiff and some experience is better than none!

Really? I worked w several nurses that started in home health...not sure which ones, sorry. Hotze clinic near Katy (west houston) hires new grads...AFTER you pass NCLEX.

I applied everywhere too even up to the Woodlands and Conroe.

Interviewed with Harris Health [Only first interview tho :/ But two of my friends who put L&D as first choice didnt hear back either so I'm wondering if they were calling according to which department is interviewing. Anyone knows anything about this?]

I'll have Hermann TMC coming up this Monday.

Methodist Willowbrook called and asked me some random questions like 10 days ish ago. But she didnt say anything. I may call her back and see if they are interviewing soon.

Called TCH and was told that they would be calling soon.

mrsrn2014: I also put L&D for my first choice but was told there is nothing available in women's services for both ben taub or LBJ. I put med surg second so they asked me to choose from some medsurg specialties for an interview. My friend that interviewed that day too was offered a job on the spot and asked to make a decision by monday because they want to know whose gonna be on the floor by the end of next week, so I'm not sure that they are still interviewing. That could be just for that specific floor though. What did you apply for at methodist willowbrook?

Awesome. Thanks for the info :) I'll call HCHD next week and see what's going on then.

I applied for both women services and med surg at Methodist willowbrook. Have you heard from them? The last that called me sounded a little impatient :/. At the end she was like okay thank you and that's it.
