Hourly pay question:

Published

I have been an ICU RN for 3 years. I'm always on time, work extra, and have always gotten good yearly reviews. My supervisor really wants me to start taking charge. We live in Indiana and I know that the pay here is probably lower than the rest of the country.

I only make 19/hr working 12 hour nights (it would be upped to 20/hr if I decide to take charge, which doesn't seem worth the hassel to me for a dollar more an hour).

Are the rest of you making way more than me? or should I just stop complaining.

Your hourly rate seems a few dollars lower than at my hospital for nurse with 3 years experience (hospital in Illinois) But as far as charge pay, anyone who takes charge gets $1.00 more per hour. There are 4 or 5 nurses on nights that rotate to charge. I like to do it occasionally - not for the extra money-- but for the challenge. I enjoy it.

I work through a travel nursing agency, so my pay is quite a bit more, than that. I work in a hospital in Philadelphia, and all of the LPN's I know make more than 19.00 an hour, the RN's make about 25-30 an hour base pay (depending on years of experience and degree), plus diff's.

New grads here in Texas start around 22/hr. 3 years experience are looking around 24-26/hr. You're making what float pool LVN's make.

Here in Texas a nurse with your experience should be around 23-26/hr. You're making what I make as a float pool LVN. Charge pay here is $1.00 also, it may be worth it if you ONLY charge, but if you charge and take patients it wouldn't be worth it in my opinion!

Thanks, I really want to relocate to Phoenix (East Valley) AZ so maybe I'll get paid more there.

I am a newly inexperienced LVN in Fort Worth, Texas who earns $18.50 hourly at a nursing home. I was barely issued my LVN license a little over 3 months ago. My friend is also a new grad LVN, and she earns $20.00 hourly at a Texas nursing home.

Is there anybody here from the central KS area? I'm in the process of getting into the nursing program in my area and I would like to know what the wage is here?

Hi

I work in Chicago. I don;t know where you are in Indiana.

When we are Charge, we make $1.00 more per hour also.

However, our base pay is Much higher.Of course, our cost of living may be higher.

Personally, I know lots of places pay $1.00/hr. However, I really feel that the work that goes along with being Charge is worth more.

In our hospital as chrge, we get a full patient assignment besides being in charge--at least on the night shift. On days and PM's, they get either no patients or 1 or 2.

Wow. I live in iowa and we don't get anything extra for being charge. THat would be great I have been a RN for 1 year and make 18.36 although I am always in charge and think that it would be great to make an extra $1 for all the stuff you have to put up with.
