Hospitals that Reimburse Tuition

Does anyone know of any hospitals in NYC that will pay back your loans or a portion of your loans if you commit to work with them for a certain amount of time. I have a pretty good deal of loans already from graduate school and don't want to get much more in debt and am trying to figure out how to finance my education. I would like to attend SUNY Stony Brook's Accelerated BSN program. I'm waiting to hear if I was accepted. I have also looked into working into an underserved area, but that seems to be so competitive (only 10% of people are accepted into either the scholarship or loan repayment program). If anyone knows of any hospitals that do this I would love to hear about them. I found a couple that off a little money, but not a whole lot. Or if anyone knows of any other good ways to finance school that would be awesome. Thanks!

I don't know where exactly in New York you live but if you are close to the metro area you can try to get a job with HHC. The majority of the students in my nursing program are from HHC (health and hospitals corporation). Some of them haven't worked with HHC for even 1 year and HHC is paying all of their tuition (books included) and their full salaries (they do not have to work) while they are in school for the 1st year. We have a 1+1 program so they will be able to complete the LPN portion before they are obligated to go back to work. In return HHC makes them sign a contract to work 2 years at a city hospital. If they continue on for the second year which is the RN portion of our program they will have to give another 2 years.

hello. New York University Medical center and Mt. Sinai Medical Centers are some of the hospitals that offer tuition reimbursement. In NYU, they offer the reimbursement of $5,000 after 6 months of employment which is a reasonable amount I could say.

Yes, you have to work with NYU for 6 mos before you qualify for the tuition reimbursement.

There is a diffrence between tution forgiveness and reimbursement. Most of the posts here I think are referring to the reimbursement part where if you work at a hospital they will pay for your school ..etc

I think you're looking for a hospital that pays for tuition after you've accumulated a heavy dose of loans. I heard that St. Frances hospital in Rosyln offers $500 a month to nurses that work for them to help pay back the loans that they already have from from nursing school. I think it applies only if they work night shift. That's the only hospital that I've heard of so far that does that.

Also keep your your eye on the Federal Perkins loan which gets cancelled if you work as a nurse. I'll be applying to that one too.

NY Presbyterian offers 10k a year toward school tuition, with a 6 month service commitment after the final payment.

NY Presb does NOT pay back your loans. It only contributes 10K towards furthering your education.

Elmhurst Hospital in Queens will pay back tuition (not sure what the cap is) if you do your externship there while in school, then agree to stay on working through your last semester and after graduation.

I am very sure HHC pays up to 30,000 towards your tuition, books included. You don't have to work for them at all while you are in school but you have to work in any of HHC facility for at least two years after you graduate. I think I understand what you are asking. Currently, that I know they are not hospitals that you will commit and they will pay your loans. They have tuition reimbursment if you are in school. But, every year there is a loan forgiveness program that you can apply at

This program will pay a % of your loans as long as you are working in a qualified health facility in U.S. rural health and under serviced areas. Next application in 2008. Just keep your loan payments and wait for the new application. Good Luck!:lol2:

At NYU do you have to work there for 6 months and then keep working there while you attend school in order to get the reimbursement or do you get $5,000 after working there for 6 months?
