Hospitals near Port Charlotte?

U.S.A. Florida

I am wondering if anyone could give me a list of the hospitals within an hours drive of Port Charlotte, Florida?

I am in Illinois, currently working in Wisconsin. I have absolutely NO idea of what the Port Charlotte area is like, but we are considering a move that way next year to be near some family. I know the job market is awful everywhere, but without an idea of what is in the area makes it difficult to know where to start.

I did google the area, and came up with several hospitals. However, living in a Chicago suburb, 10 miles could equal up to an hour in drive time, or 35 miles could equal an hour if you are going a different direction! It is so hard to tell not being familiar with the area.

Thank you in advance for any and all replies. They are greatly appreciated!

Fawcett Memorial Hospital and Peace River Regional Medical Center are both in Port Charlotte. The Charlotte Regional Medical Center is less than 7 miles south (15-20 minute drive) across the Peace River to Punta Gorda. Lee County (south of Charlotte County) also offers 2 hospitals that would be within an hour's (45 minutes) drive on most days. These facilities, Cape Coral Hospital and Lee Memorial Hospital are part of the Lee Memorial Health System.

To the west is Englewood Community Hospital and northwest is Venice Regional Medical Center. Even the hospitals in Sarasota meet your criteria. Snowbird season from October until about the 3rd week of April causes increased traffic with March being the peak season (snowbirds and spring breakers). Brush fires during the dry season may also slow traffic.

The great thing about this area is if you enjoy cruising, there are 3 cruise ports within a 3-hour drive and another less than 4 hours away.

Good luck with your decision, Kelly.

I have an interview with a few hospitals in the Port Charlotte area at the end of August. The nurse recruiter told me the base pay for a new grad is $21.00. Shift diff for each hospital varies but I know that Fawcett Hospital pays $3.00 after 3pm, $3.50 after 11pm, and $1.50 for weekends. I hope this gives you some insight to pay in the area. :)

Biggles, How did the interview go? I am aiming for summer '12 to move down to the Port Charlotte area. I was thinking about applying from out of state (Michigan) and flying down for any interviews. What is the job outlook in the area? I have 5yrs as an RN, Tele/stroke, Home care and Rehab. Any advice/info would be great! :)
