I just got my RN licence last june in Hong Kong. To work in hospital is my dream. However, my application to HK hospital authority was turned down due to some unknown reasons. May be due to my age, as i am now 50years old. Therefore, I'm looking for any overseas opportunity. Anybody out there can give me some valuable advice of what I can do?

You really need to decide which country you want to live and work in and then look at their nursing requirements as well as immigration requirements
Thanks very much for your reply. I hv been looking at some other threads in this websites. Seems USA, Canada, Australia, UK are the most popular countries for new immigrants. But these countries also would not hire nurses without solid working experiences. Is that true? or what would b other choices, what countries are desperately having a big demand of nurses?

I don't think there are any countries desperate for nurses that would overlook licensing & experience requirements in the current economic climate.
Likely no nation is willing to relax immigration requirements. Backlog for US visa is 6 years plus. Specialty visas require verifiable experience for 4+ years in a specialty area (NICU OR ED critical care etc. ). Plus many US states have high nursing unemployment and most employers will hire US citizen/PR nurses rather than the high expenses and paperwork required to sponsor a non-citizen. Plus the employer must prove there is no qualified citizen to perform the job.
Nursing is no longer on Canadian visa list. Plus many provinces and hospitals are laying off nurses right now.
New Zealand requires 2 years nursing experience plus their IEN bridge programs are highly competitive.
AUS has enacted regulations to encourage employers to hire AUS citizens /graduates over visa sponsorship. Even if accepted to an IEN bridge program and authorized by APHRA there is no employment guarantee and you are responsive for the costs of assessment, education and living expenses.
UK can barely offer employment to its citizen/PR nurses so there is little need for an IEN with no experience.
Is there no where else in Hong Kong that you can work as a nurse besides the hospital that rejected you ?
Of note many countries have age restrictions on immigration/work visa. Some are more subtle as in the points for eligibility are fixed but you get extra points if you are 25-35 years old and may lose points if you are older than 49. Something to consider.
You could look at the middle eastern countries. But there are no discrimination laws against females and foreign residents. It is a very different culture, some areas are a war zone and you are expected to comply with local customs even if they are not consistent with your own.
Good luck.
Thanks for yr reply. Currently i am working in a mentally retarded manor as a Rn. But i firmly believe that Rn should be working in hospital. And i am more kin on getting more clinical experience in ward. My current job is more about administration rather than giving bed side care to patients
Middle east like dubai is fine for me. Dubai requires Uk, Usa, Canada, Aussie licence holders. Hk Rn licence seems not recognised by any other countries (except china)since our handover to china. What can i say

Unfortunately......the world economy is very poor. Terrorism has tightened immigration requirements....no country is willing to loosen requirements. There are no short cuts. Even if you get a WORK VISA it doesn't guarantee you will be able to work or be able to sit for licensure.
Each country has their own education requirements...which every new applicant/IEN needs to adhere to to not only enter but be licensed in that country.
I wish you the best.

Dear Ms,
You are right in your assumption, it is the age definitely. The best option for us like guys is to opt for in house nursing job if one intrested ( Home Nursing )or in the Medical Administration. Th Management of an Institution consider Age when it is coming down to select a person's CV to work in a Ward or Departments. It is a fact and reality. I wish you adapt to the reality and seek a job which suits your age. Feel free to communicate [email protected] best of luck and great regards, Vinod-India
