hospital interview

Published

hello all, I'am new to this thread so please bare with me. well on Monday I went to an interview for a hospital. the position was for patient registrar (emergency) The interview went great. I was interviewed by two women. I gave them both a copy of my resume, references, and a thank you letter. we spoke about the position, scrub colors, parking, and etc. I was told the hiring process could take a few weeks. well yesterday I checked the stat of my application and it says 'interview.' So I applied for another 2 more positions w/ the hospital just to keep my options open and I wanna make sure my name pops up and they realize I wanna work for them. Today one of the apps said " not selected" and the other one just says " applied" but my original app still says "interview." I feel like this position is mine. I even went as far as to call Wednesday and leave a voicemail thanking them for interviewing me and I told them I really wanted to work for the company, ( I hope that wasn't to much.) well my 3 references told me they haven't been contacted yet. So my question Is do HR do a background check first? Or do they need your permission for that? I really want this position. I just want to be able to provide and build a career within the hospital. any feedback? thanks all... :)

For the position I recently accepted, they gave me a verbal offer before running a background check. HR departments are notorious for mostly being slow with the entire hiring process.

However, if I were you, I would not have kept applying for positions within the same hospital. It could look like you weren't really interested in the position, so you decided to try for something else, or that you're desperate for a job. Just my 2 cents. Either way, I hope you hear something soon.

I hope they don't think that. Lol I only applied because I really just wanted to keep my options open. Wasn't sure if they were going to go in a different direction. But it was for the same position. So I'am hoping for the best. It's honestly just a waiting game right now

^I would not worry too much about applying to multiple positions, OP. IMO, it is a good idea (and, imo, a nursing manager would be pretty arrogant and naive to think that you should apply to just his/her unit).

You never know - no two units are the same; one unit may be a terrible fit for you while another unit may actually fit you perfectly.

Why wait for one unit to make a decision while other units are still offering interviews? By the time that one unit makes a decision, the other units may stop interviewing - why chance it?

For one hospital I applied at, a recruiter actually encouraged me to apply to multiple positions; however, I did so at once, and then the recruiter alerted the hospital's main HR that I applied.

OP, for this hospital, what done is done, but if you decide to apply to another hospital, I suggest applying to multiple positions at once. Personally, I would also apply to other positions as they show up.

Thank you so much for this comment lol. I have always been told it was a good idea to keep your options open just in case the job you want doesn't fall through. I felt like my interview went great but I also had to keep in mind that I'am in competition w/ other people that have applied and interviewed for the same position. I just wanted to keep my options open. Iam basically waiting for a phone call that might not even happen. So I figured, " what the hell." You might as well apply while you can just so they can see that you are interested. I called kind of early in my interview just to let them know I'am very interested. So I'am hoping that helped along w/ my thank you letter. I'am just hoping for the best. Tomorrow will make it a week since my interview. I'am just waiting for a phone call but I'am still applying just in case I don't get the job. Thank you for understanding! I thought maybe it was a mistake to apply for something else. í ½í¸«
