All nursesI am currently attending the Henry Ford Community College
Nursing program in Michigan and I will qualify to take the NCLEX for my RN licensing May of 2011.
I am looking for a local health system that lends financial help to nursing students in return for contracted RN work upon completion of that students program and I am having trouble finding any information like that on any of the hospital websites.
I have a solid academic track record and have worked two years as a home health aide with excellent references.
But because I have very poor credit I cannot get private student loans and my Fed/Stafford loans are not going to cut it for my last secenty weeks because I will only be able to work a little. Please reply if you know of any michigan hospitals with such program(s) or if you have gotten a private student loan despite a really bad credit rating. Have a Happy New Year.

Not sure about Michigan, but in my area once the economy tanked those programs were stopped. Isn't Michigan in a bad way economically? High unemployment, lack of jobs? Good luck.

Agree with MerryWidow. The only tuition reimbursement I've seen recently has been for employees of the hospital. Good luck, hope you find something.

Currently all the tuition assistance in return for service has been discontinued in my area. Did you look into any scholarships? Write as many well written essays as you need to. Also, community colleges usually have scholarships that only that college's students can apply for. I serve on a local technical college's alumni board and we raise money for our own scholarships to give to students . I know applying doesn't guarantee anything but anything you may receive as a scholarship is free money. Hope that helps.

do you have healthsouth rehab hospitals there? they offer "loans" in exchange for working with them for 1-2 years after graduation, depending on how much money you get from them. i'm not 100% sure that they still do this, but worth looking into. good luck
