I apologize if this thread has already been started. New to the forum. I'm a nursing student/cna. Was wondering how you nurses felt about the compulsory flu vaccine and potential vaccine mandates any and all responses are appreciated. I'm aware it's not compulsory in TX but have heard stories of other states having it.

Yes, there are many threads on this subject. Not necessarily a state mandate, but a facility mandate. Do a Search here for mandatory vaccine, then read away:yes:

It's not compulsory....but, where I work, if you elect not to get the flu vaccine you are required to wear a mask during your shift until flu season is proclaimed to be over.

No apologies necessary, you're new :) But as roser pointed out, if you use the Search feature, you'll find an awful lot of information on this, as it's been discussed and debated and hotly contested with some regularlity :)

actually, it is a Board recommendation in Texas. They adopted the CDC plan for vaccination of health care workers (nurses, lab personel, etc). Healthcare workers interact with many people, some very sick. Passing along an illness is a way of creating epidemics. Not only that, when epidemics occur, HealthCare workers are need the most. It would be a pity to turn way sick people because the facility did not have enough staff to care for them as they were sick too. I think we have a responsibility to take care of ourselves.
