Hospital CNA?

Published

Hello! I'm a new young CNA ( only 18) I've been working for about a year now in rehab/LTC. I will be starting prerequisites for nursing school this fall and I am interested in gaining more experience I was wondering if anyone had any advice about making the switch from Rehab/LTC to more of an acute care hospital setting I know its much faster paced but I have worked inpatient Rehab since I got certified I think this could make the transition a little easier but I'm still afraid that i'm not experienced enough and that I will be much slower then the other aides. So my question is should I remain where I am now or should I try to move to hospital

Thank you, any advice would be greatly appreciated :D

Good for you, jhans! A year's experience as a CNA at 18 years of age and already getting into a nursing program! I am impressed!

From a gestalt point of view, your duties as a CNA will be basically the same in providing patient direct care in any area you work. The specifics will be different in the different areas and you will be working under the supervision of a nurse who should direct you in your duties.

I sense you won't have much problem acclimating, being the driven self-starter you are.

Good luck and the very very best to you!

I agree, go fo it! You will be fine.

Your transition from LTC to acute will be just fine. The big difference will be that in acute you will not know your patients like you know your residents so well in LTC. Some of the equipment may be different in acute but they will train you.
