I'm at the high school level. We're doing the "Krispy Kreme Challenge" today to raise money for the yearbook. It involves students running a mile, eating six Krispy Kreme donuts and then running another mile. I'll be handing out bags when they get their donuts so they don't puke on the football field.
My concern: One of my diabetic students is doing it. His sugar could be all over the place- running 2 miles vs. eating six glazed Krispy Kreme donuts (PS- *drool*). I need to call him down and make sure he brings his glucometer with him and I'll bring the other supplies I have for him!
Somehow Krispie Kremes have wheedled there way into more fundraisers than you can shake a stick at. This whole harebrained scheme was probably cooked up by their promotion department. The thing that gets me is, the whole allure and delight of eating a Krispie Kreme is that they are hot, fresh, and melt in you mouth. What's so special about eating one of these donuts when it's not fresh? And eating one after another after running a mile sounds idiotic beyond comprehension.
Have you ever had a not fresh KK donut? *drool* Still almost perfect.
In college, my dorm room faced Krispy Kreme. Seriously not even a quarter of a mile away. The hot now sign came on at 6am and 6pm. You could smell the sweetness in the dorm!

Yes, I've had a not fresh Krispie Kreme. They are nothing special
Now that's just not American.
Actually it's a big deal in Raleigh...although there is some barfing going down
I think they did one in Greenville this year too. The teacher who does yearbook, her son went to NCSU, which is where the got the idea from.
I'm looking forward to it, but also secretly hoping it rains!
Update (again): Spoke with student with diabetes. He is NOT eating the donuts. WOOHOO. And he'll probably walk instead of run. Even better!
Whoo hoo ! I'm very protective of my diabetic. Whenever their are little parties involving food I cringe. But he's really responsible and knows what to eat and what not to eat.
