Hooters as Job History...Could this hurt my chances of getting a job?

Published

I am in nursing school and will graduate this august and I have been applying for Patient care tech jobs for several months now and haven't heard anything. I do not have any experience working in a hospital but I figured my clinical experience and that I'm in nursing school about to graduate would make up for that. I am young so I have very little work experience. I've only had 3 jobs one as a cashier, one as a waitress/bartender at hooters, and one as a bartender in a neighborhood bar. My question is, Do you think putting down hooters as job experience is hurting my chances of getting a job? Would it be a bad idea to change it to a more tasteful restaurant like olive garden? lol I would love an answer from anyone who is a manager or does hiring and knows if that would hurt my chances? But any feedback would be great!

I grinned when I saw that, but then I've never been to hooters just hear-say from people. So I am going to make it a point to go to hooters. The food's good you say?

I had a friend in nursing school who went there, took her young daughter, for the wings. Yes, for the wings, not the waitresses. She always said the scariest part of going there were the customers, not the waitresses. You get some guys in there that make you say "OOOHHHHHH YES, that one is a maladjusted stalker. Don't even say hello to him or he'll be following you home and everything."

I don't get the impression that the OP is feeling ashamed, I don't know where anybody got that idea. She is just realizing the situation she may or may not be in and feeling she might need to make adjustments for it. She is right in taking stock of things. Nursel56 is correct in saying basically that there is a situation potential that she WILL need to plan for.

funny - i had never been either and my husband and i were driving around talking about where to go when we saw a Hooters and he said, "how about Hooters?"

i was like, "okay, let's go there. i've never been." he couldn't believe it. he thought i was joking and said that HE was just joking because he didn't think i would ever want him to go there. it was so funny - i was like WHY?!

i don't have a body half as cute as most of those girls, but i wasn't really worried about a waitress picking him up and taking him home (although i might have tipped more if they would've) :lol2:

and we took the kids. the food was great.

List the job and skills learned that similar to nursing:

Waitress/ beverage server in high volume restaurant using computer entry system. Learned to successfully diffuse disgruntled customers. Excellent customer service skills. Shift supervisor delegated work to 7-10 staff responsible for maintaining business standards. Promoted to trainer conducting weekly/bimonthly sessions. Communicated to management substandard care along with client incidents for followup and effective resolution.

Yep---all those skills transferable to nursing.

I was thinking that myself. With nursing looking more and more like waitressing these days.....................

Heck, they'd probably hire OP before someone with medical field related experience, the other person having habits and ideas that would differ from their institution.

Oh, now I see your point! I have another idea! They should put the "hourly rounding" check-off sheets above the nurse's heads clipped to a line, like the girls do at Hooters to give the observer a better eyeful of her rack while she's wearing her size 000 scrubs and lip gloss! :coollook:

I just decided to ask my 23 yr old son about this - he wondered if a guy would put Chippen---- oh never mind too infammatory, also he isn't a recruiter or hiring manager and therefore has no idea what would be off-putting to them or whether a 3 month employment gap on the resume of a person in their twenties is a big deal or not.

OP: I wouldn't put your Hooters pic on your resume for obvious reasons...otherwise I don't see any problem with listing your employment there. You did learn valuable customer service and organizational skills at that job. There's no shame in working at Hooters.

I would not lie and change the name of the restaurant because what if they decide to verify your employment there?

And Hooters is not the den of inequity that lots of people seem to think it is. They may be wearing the Hooters gear and all look like supermodels in training, but all they're selling is food and drink, that's it. If you go there you'd be surprised at how many families--often with kids--that you will see dining there.

Yeah, thats what I don't get. Hooters is not all that exciting or "dark and mysterious" or anything. I mentioned a friend who goes there for the wings. I went once. The outfits are not all that revealing and no, the girls don't look like supermodels. They look like the girl from down the street wearing short shorts.

It must be my local Hooters then--I swear they hired every supermodel-wanna-be in town :lol2:

The wings are good there...I'm hungry. Now I think I'm going to have to stop by with my son to get a dozen.
