Honest opinions from nurses please

Published

The Newspaper I write for is having a bit of a problem with an image they are using just as an Icon on what is called the "Nurse Talk" section. I will post a link check the picture of Betty Boop there and please give your opinions/feeling on the subject of this Icon being degrading to nurses, and if you feel it is inappropriate to use?

This was the only picture I could find online the caption Bottoms up does not appear on the newspaper and it is not a coffee cup.

Readers Vote Overwhelming

67% votes to keep

33% votes to boot

Though the majority of votes were in

favor of keeping Betty Boop alive in the

Nurse Talk section of Oklahoma's Nursing Times it is the

opinion of the editorial staff that all readers opinions and

concerns are important. As an independent publication our

goal is to provide a communication resource for all nursing

and health care professionals throughout Oklahoma.

Due to the large number of negative responses to the

appearance of Betty Boop, we feel it is time to say goodbye.

We appreciate and thank all those who participated.

Here it is the final tally, Betty bites the dust even though reader 2/3's were not offended. Editor will pull the pic anyway because they don't want to offend anyone, so just thought you might want the update. if you check the link it shows garfield giving Betty the Boot.

well I guess the link is for the entire paper which must be downloaded so you may not want to bother, if you do scroll to the very end for the Betty story.

Maybe someone could help me remember but in the 1970 something there was a medical comedy sitcom on that represented nursing looking like a bunch of Media stars. seriously, 8" heals, short nursing outfits low cut tops ect. The nursing community had a fit and it was taken off the air. I was young at the time but I remember that. What the show was called I can't recall

Possibly a show called Temperatures Rising, it was a comdey with theguy from Blazing Saddles as a doctor and there were always a bunch of floozy type nurses he was hitting on.

hen youo think about it though even MASH made nurse out to be pretty free and loose with sex! Hawk-eye never had any problem lining up dates!@
