Home Health preceptorship for LVNs??

Hello!

I'm a LVN who got my license in November 2009. I live in Southern CA, and have NOT been able to find a job. ANYWAYS, I landed a home health preceptorship through a connection, and will be starting in about 3 weeks. My connection said we will 'talk numbers later'. I have personally never heard of anyone doing a home health preceptorship because most home health companies say they prefer a year of experience. Anyone ever heard of one of these? If so, should I be expecting to make a wage that's at least comparable to that of a full-fledged working LVN? Any feedback helps. Thanks!

I've never heard of a Home Health preceptorship in California. In the unlikely event they are hiring you as a Case Manager to do the every 30-60 day recertification visits, OASIS forms and specialized short visits for IVs, wound care, etc, you would need to be trained by a "preceptor" but she most likely wouldn't accompany you on your visits.

What I'm really interested in is this idea of paying a wage "less than a full-fledged working LVN". It might be just a new creative way for agencies to pay nurses crap wages to save a nickle or two. I have about 6 years combined experience with various agencies, not once did I encounter a "Home Health Preceptorship".

If you aren't getting a lot of replies, you might want to post this in Home Health or Private Duty Nurses sections of allnurses. Best of luck to you!! :nurse:

Sounds like someone is going to be making some profit by taking advantage of you. Do not fall for this. Home health agencies hire people straight out of school and orient them to the job, on the job, at the rate of pay they intend to pay the LVN. Reduced wage is nothing more than cheap labor. Again, do not fall for it. There is no such thing as a home health preceptorship. Get hired for a real job and get real LVN pay. Try this agency, known for hiring new grads right out of school: American Private Duty in Sherman Oaks. Good luck.

Does California use LVNs for OASIS visits?

For the OP, sounds like you need to find out more about the job in general.

Haven't heard that LVNs can do OASIS visits, thought you have to be an RN to do that.

yep - have to be a RN, PT, OT or SLP do OASIS stuff..period. Doesn't matter what state you are in - Medicare is Medicare....

I guess some agencies don't have a problem bending the rules, because I've heard firsthand accounts from LVN/LPNs. No one ever asked me to do one, thank God.

I've also heard accounts of LPNs asked to fill out the OASIS form and then the RN signs it, but please don't get caught in that trap. It's not within your scope of practice and I believe it also constitutes Medicare fraud.
