I am 23 years old and I have my BA in Psychology. However, I realized that I wanted to pursue a career in nursing my last two years of college. But instead of starting over I decided to finish my undergraduate degree in psychology and go back to school for nursing. I applied to NYU and I didn't get accepted. I am looking into Holy Name Hospital School of Nursing and Christ Hospital School of Nursing. Both schools are located in NJ and both have the registered nurse program. I want to know if anyone has information on these schools. For example, are they good nursing programs, are they hard to get into, etc. thanks!

Hey hope is well! I can totally relate to you. 3 yrs ago I graduated from Rutgers NB and I found myself stuck. After much thought, I finally realized nursing was for me. I applied to Christ Hospital in June 2010, and I'm starting my first NUR class this fall. CH has a geat NCLEX passing rate and if you can't get into an ABSN program, I recommend it. I called other nursing schools in the area to get their thoughts on the school. The nursing director from WPUNJ told me that the hardest program to get into right now in the state of NJ is an RN program. (I was thinking about going there part time instead of CH). What I am trying to say is if you cant get into an ABSN program, get into an RN program and then get your BSN after (as nowadays hospitals want BSN-educated nurses).
ALSO--- DONT WASTE TIME APPLYING!!!!!! I know ppl who applied in Apr 2011 to get into the Fall 2012 program!
Hey thanks for your reply! :) I did some research and I read really good reviews on Christ Hospital School of Nursing. I already finished all my pre-requisite courses. So,I'm thinking about applying to UMDNJ too. I just really hope I get into any program because it's so competitive and i feel like time is passing me by. I want to start working already and I feel like I've been in school for so long.

Since you already have a bachelor degree and finished all your pre-req courses, why don't you apply for ABSN programs in NJ???? That way you can get a BSN degree and become a RN at the same time! but if you choose to go to holy name or christ hospital (HS diploma needed), you can only RN diploma (no bsn degree) and you def wanna go back to school to do RN-BSN bridge program since most hospitals want RNs with BSN degrees. I personally think you really should apply for ABSN programs in NJ like FDU,SetonHall, WPUNJ, UMDNJ, Rutgers, NJCU or Felician!!!
Hey thanks for your reply! I had orginally wanted to apply to the ABSN programs in NJ but I got discouraged when NYU's ABSN program didn't accept me. My gpa for psychology is a 3.4 and I finished and passed all my pre-requisite classes, mostly with A's and B's. Hoewever, for anatomy & physiology I which I took at FDU i got a C. I think this C in anatomy & physiology I makes me less competitive. I noticed that most accelerated programs apart from FDU accept a C. But I know that it has made me less competitive as an applicant so slowly I have been giving up hope. I don't have the money to re-take the class again. My letters of recommendation were from assistant directors in their department like criminal justice and international studies. I also have volunteered in Meodowlands Medical Center and was a DYFS Intern in College. Like i said before, ABSN programs are very competitive. I will still be applying to UMDNJ ABSN program for the spring 2012 and I hope I get accepted. I would love to get my BSN in 12 or 15 months so I don't have to be in school for a long time. But these nursing programs are so competitve, right now I just want to go where i'll be accepted. :lvan:

Hello all,
I can relate to this posting alot. I have a B.S. in Public Health. Have taken A&P 1 and 2, Chem, Organic Chem, Micro etc. I have applied to several ABSN programs in NY and NJ and they are extremely competitive and I did not get into any. My sciences are B except for Micro which a C. My next option is to attend a AAS Nursing program and later get my bachelors.
Can you guys update me on whats going on? Did you guys get in the program as yet. I am thinking of applying.
Thanks
