Graduate in May and planning on moving to Melbourne. Holmes Regional any good? I know they are a Magnet hospital, but what is the real scoop? I've been living in Maryland since 2001 after being in Alaska for 3 years (Army) so I haven't been to Florida in a while. What is an entry/new grad (RN) pay in Florida like? What is fair and what is poop? Thanks friends!
Nope just ride the birds.
As far as getting licensed per endoresment alot of how long the wait is going to be is how fast the prior state can get your license verified ie if its a Nursys state that helps and how fast your finger prints clear. I hear if you have been printed and submitted previously for another state or what not and the FBI has your prints on file things go faster. I do know that it majorly sucked no matter what state it was in the year of so after 9/11.

In that case I should be good to go... Fingerprints are in from my Army days as a radioteletype operator and I did the NURSYS thing last Thursday. Doing the ACLS class on the 10th... looks daunting... all those drugs, algorithms, and cases... definitely a heck of a lot more than BLS in 2 days time... wow...

Anyone see "Treasure Hunters"... EX-CIA got whooped by the Geniuses!
Don't sweat ACLS so much. They have dumbed it down so much in the last 5-10 years its a joke. The last time i recertified, 2 years ago it was so incrdibly easy i could have done it sleeping. Shoot I can remember the first time I did the mega code it was the ER director and the EMS director doing it and it took 30 mins. Now you do the mega code as group or at least the last time I did it we did and it barely was 5 mins.

Whew! That's a relief! I mean I want to be proficient but damn! Give someone time to absorb the material... I have an average brain and aptitude like all the other rookies so all things considered I should do fairly well...

[color=plum]rj, your right... in two hours the last day begins and were just going to talk through the megacode in comfy chairs with our other team members... bout 5-10 minutes! agreed to skip lunch to get out early, yipee!
then going to the movies to watch "pulse"... can't wait for "snakes on a plane"!
The newer theory behind ACLS is that you are never going to be running a code alone so why make you do it that way. Also if your in a hospital I have yet to see a code care that doesnt have the protocols on them. So thet let you have them with you to.
I was a paramedic when I first took ACLS. Personally for them it needs to be more difficult because often times it is just them and a basic EMT. Unfortunately its the same for everyone.

that's exactly what the paramedic instructor said. he said it cut down significantly on the vomiting due to the strain of it all! everything went well and got my card... can't do acls with juice or drugs, bls all the way till resources arrive...
by the way, anyone reading this please please please don't see "pulse"! it sucked so bad like nothing before it had ever sucked! movie relied to much on "cool", "gnarly" visuals (purposeless) and "pretty people". the acting by the character "zeigler" was horrible. almost laughable. i really didn't care if the people lived or died. if your a contrarian and are going to see it... it might be time to put aside your methodology... please don't watch!!!
btw... monday is such a happy day! finally get hired to hrmc! i know some of you are thinking "if he only knew what he was getting into.... tsk tsk...". lol
any hrmcers with advice? parking? cafeteria? pro-health & fitness? good internal medicine doc to use on my insurance? yippee!!:balloons: :balloons: :balloons:
:monkeydance: :loveya:
you got that right. after a few days of working at the respiratory wing, i got sick! my throat started getting scratchy a couple of days ago, then had the colds which eventually ended up with that loose cough. and i had body malaise, nausea, diarrhea on top of that too. ewwyuckarch!! they had to send me home yesterday after seeing my condition, of which, i gladly obliged. some of the older staff told me that when they first started in this department, they too got sick almost every week or every month until their body adjusted or for some reason got immune to the "air" around. and to think i religiously took my vitamins, ate healthy and did my standard/contact/airborne precs seriously....
anyway, thanks for asking. im ok now. just needed a good few hours of rest and sleep to kick the sickness away.
good luck on your first day at hrmc! any tips?...just make sure not to get lost. hehehe..are you on the day shift? parking is at the marketplace if you are on the day shift. a shuttle bus goes around the parking area picking up people at designated bus stops starting at about 5 am til 7 or 8pm. interval between buses is more or less 10 mins.
quick Q, whats a NURSYS?

[color=plum]hope you're feeling better soon! drink plenty of fluids! nursys is a system used to verify the fact that your a licensed nurse in another state to the inquiring entity... i am a maryland rn so i have to endorse... i hope i got the jist of it... my apologies if i misrepresented... don't know what shift i have... left it up to them... 6 west.... i get hired monday so everything will be finalized soon.... won't start till september 11th... i'll seen you then and the rest of the new grads....
so that big parking garage is worthless? is it just for patients? wow... prices reasonable in the cafeteria?
have you and your hubby checked out the beach? you should if you haven't... i got to get a beach umbrella, beach blanket, cooler, and a beach chair and settle in on a nice spot... and read a good medsurg book, not!

You have some well deserved rest coming your way...
