Graduate in May and planning on moving to Melbourne. Holmes Regional any good? I know they are a Magnet hospital, but what is the real scoop? I've been living in Maryland since 2001 after being in Alaska for 3 years (Army) so I haven't been to Florida in a while. What is an entry/new grad (RN) pay in Florida like? What is fair and what is poop? Thanks friends!

New grad pay in Florida ranges from $16.00/hr to maybe $22.00/hr. Most of the time, it is less than $20.00/hr. Highest rates will be in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area, Ft. Myers, Orlando or perhaps Jacksonville. Pay Rates for office nursing will usually be lower than hospital pay.

Don't come here to fort myers...Lee Memorial is stingy! 10 years ICU experience with certification and they want to start me at $25/hour. No sign on's and conditions are even worse. New grads here start at $22...go figure
Thank you for your responses! I just want to know so I'll know if I'm being lowballed.... BTW it varies greatly here in Maryland too. LPN new grads can start from $19 to $25.74 base pay (understand that LPNs only work in Longterm as I do in Maryland (RN grad May 23rd), and RN new grads start from $21 to $27. However, we pay state tax and the cost of living is ridiculous. A $225,000 house in Florida isn't the same here in Maryland (a shack). Can't wait to get to Florida's beaches! The salty breeze blowing, the "live bait" neon signs, Ron Jon commercials, surfer shops, scuba shops....ah.....
Good luck to you...$225,000 won't get you much here either. Prices for something decent are $300,000 and up....
Thanks for the replies! Am now in Melbourne living at the Harbors marking time. Passed the NCLEX-RN last Friday! Yay! Maryland's BON dropped the ball and didn't pass to PearsonVue the fact I was eligible to test for NCLEX thus a late ATT. HRMC is hiring me August 14th and will start the new grad orientation September 11th.... yup, the 11th... got to stretch those dollars until then... frugal city... Meanwhile they suggested take the ACLS class... sure what else am I going to do? Part of a nurse's development anyways... Will be working in 6 West Surgical... I did take the tour before being verbally accepted to the job but does anyone there enjoy it? Until then I guess I'll be watching Jerry, Maury, Oprah, Dr Phil, America's Got Talent, and Treasure Hunters.... eating macaroni and cheese, spam and Kool Aid til work starts! I guess walking up and down the beach is cool too....
Happy in Melbourne

Woohoo! I'm glad you made it to Melbourne area. Not a bad way to spend your summer until work starts, huh? Congrats again, I hope you love your new job :balloons:
Thanks! Went to sign up for the ACLS class but it was full... ...so I signed up for the August 10-11 class... I'm not going anywhere... Went to the Mall on 192 to DNA Scrubs but it looked kinda grody... also... ...mall food... bad... yech!! so I went to the scrub/uniform shop on the strip mall on Hibiscus next to my old school Melbourne High... Scrubs in Maryland are way cheaper. People here are getting ripped off... $20 bucks here for a top or bottom crazy... $28 for a set is more like it... I pay $24 in Frederick for a set... Not whining just making an observation friends... weather is nice... Then I went a got a nice Cuban sandwich... BTW folks what is the shoe policy for HRMC? Closed toe naturally, but what about the heel? Clogs yes or no? BTW nursing shoes for men? Where do I go here in Melbourne... Nonexistent right? Will be at Melbourne beach tomorrow walking up and down... If you want to join me let me know... I'll be the dude with the goatee and a camelbak hydration resource...

Have you tried the scrubs in Walmart? You can buy scrubs in Perkins Medical in Sebastian on Hwy 1 and there are two in Vero Beach (one opposite the hospital and one off hwy 60). If you venture that far down (about 30mins south of Melbourne)
Funny you happen to mention Walmart because I was on the phone with a dear old friend of mine from the Army in Alaska and he suggested Walmart too... Walmart is a valid choice but am on the lookout for unique "cuts". Afraid I'd show up with the same outfit I guess... I'll check out those stores tomorrow cause I have plenty of time on my hands... after the beach of course.... Glad Wendy's has a place to rinse off the sand and saltwater... I'll be there today cause it's actually Tuesday... Thanks for the info!
