Holmes Regional in Melbourne

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Graduate in May and planning on moving to Melbourne. Holmes Regional any good? I know they are a Magnet hospital, but what is the real scoop? I've been living in Maryland since 2001 after being in Alaska for 3 years (Army) so I haven't been to Florida in a while. What is an entry/new grad (RN) pay in Florida like? What is fair and what is poop? Thanks friends!

im at 7E (respiratory). im not sure yet what my program is because tomorrow will be the first time i report on the floors. pretty anxious to start though. everything is WAY different from what i was used to..when do you start working?

:wink2:

I'm glad you like it here! Pretty bored here.... What section did you get hired to? Are you doing the new grad 3 month preceptorship September 11th.....? I'll be going to 6 West Surgical....

Get hired on the 14th of August, the usual TB tests, contract signing, shift selection... but won't start til 11th September. In the mean time since I just got my license 21st July from Maryland, I will be going through the long, bitter endorsement process to get the Florida license... what a national scam... but i'll do it with a smile on my face and ask for more... August 10th I'll be taking the ACLS course for a 75 cent raise... Looking forward to working at Holmes. I get the impression I'll be there for years. The people I met are charming... You watch tonight's "Grey's Anatomy"? It was alright... TTYL

hi. i guess you can say i've got the 1st day of work blues...i am so tired and my feet are killing me! not that i did anything but from just standing around almost 90% of the time.. hehehe...i have a preceptor, a real nice lady and i am supposed to be shadowing her for most of the time while i am still on training. but other than my feet, i had a pretty interesting time, getting to learn stuff and how everything works. actually, i didnt feel tired until i got home.

unfortunately, we dont have a tv yet (so pathetic huh?) so, no grey's anatomy for me. we just moved in from a different country and we only have the basic necessities in our apartment.thank God for this computer though! otherwise, we would go nuts!

Seach for the multiple posts on this board for shoes. I worked over in that area a year ago as a travel nurse at the hospital up 1 in Rocklege, scrubs there were not hard to find becasue as long as the were white you were good to go. I did stumble on to this web site the other day for shoes they look to have every thing imaginable. http://www.onlineshoes.com/default.asp

Just remember if you go with tennis shoes or the like they need to be replaced at regular intervals. From my research thats anywhere from 300-500 miles, which in my case works out to about 10-18 wks.

Thanks RJ, you're a gem... This has been a problem that has vexed me for years in nursing school and upon entry into the workforce... I posted a question regarding nursing shoes for men and it went nowhere... I like the Dansko Professional... During nursing school I had these goofy looking white leather Adidas tennis shoes... Ugly and embarrassing... sure I could have replaced them but it was to late... last semester was upon us and I said to myself I was going to wear them out of spite... crazy... I want to make a good impression being new and all... but comfort is paramount... being 36 I'm one of those people that knows that back problems are inevitable for me... I bookmarked the page... will get them after I pay for the Florida endorsement application.... Thanks again...

Dansko's didnt work to well for me but for others they are great. Also what works in one environment doesnt work in another. I generally stick to Nike's or New Balance tennis shoes and just bite the bullet and replace them every 6 months or so. They are for work so dont forget tax deductions. Generally my legs or lower back tell me when its past time to replace them. So as one would say your mileage may very.

I can vouch for the New Balance shoes because while going through the ADN-RN program I recieved my LPN and worked as such from August 2005... Adidas went crazy and made their tennis shoes extremely narrow (running shoes) and apparently eliminated their cross trainer lines.... I loved their cross trainers. No business for them from me... I'm brand loyal but they went too far... I think I'll go to Panera... avocado sandwich of some sort... with olive oil and vinegar...
