Holes in your shoes? Gross!

I wear Crocs, the solid ones, but seriously, the Crocs with the holes in them gross me out on the nursing floor. I think they ar fine for running about the house, but in an environment of leaky iv's, confused pts pulling out bloody iv's and urinal spills I don't want an access point directly onto my feet!

I have an aversion to feet . . . think they are gross. And so I've never been able to wear Crocs to work.

I can't even get a pedicure . . . I can't make a person do that, I feel so sorry for them.

OMG I know how you feel. Only babies have nice feet in my opinion. I'm in Florida and it's feet central here (uggghh) Adults can have fairly decent feet if they do some maintence but I still shudder at most hooves I see.

However I finally got a pedicure. I used to just get the fingernails done and out the door. Trust me they wouldn't do it if they minded and it does feel good when they rub your calf muscles (not in every nail place) but many of them massage your legs during the soak/pedicure process.

There is a guy at the nail place I was going to who only does fingernails he is NO on feet/pedicures. You can see him gagging whenever he looks towards the area where they do the pedicures.

There is one woman who works there who only does feet. She said she didn't mind even the really scarey looking kind.

We are not allowed to wear Crocs with holes in them to work due to infection control issues. We can wear the Crocs without holes.

As for Crocs: the closed kind were the only thing that got me through my last six months of hospital nursing. I would never have worn the ones with the holes, though---not only because of the risk of bodily fluids, IVs, needles etc. but because they........well.........they make this squelching noise that literally sounds like you're pharting when you walk. I've owned two dozen pairs of Crocs, but I've never had that problem with the closed kind (at least not when I wore socks with them). Weird. Maybe my feet are shaped funny, or something---I've never heard of anyone else having this issue. But it IS embarrassing when you're walking down the hall going "PHRRT! PHRRT! PHRRT!" with every step. :chair:

I'm a weirdo who can do feet. There are some feet I don't like to do (think ESRD, diabetic, haven't been cleaned in years) but I start my patient's baths from the feet and work up. If I ever decide not to be a nurse, I think I'll go do pedicures.

Anyhow, yeah, no to holes. I thought all crocs made that squelchy noise? My Klogs squeak like little baby ducks... and let's not get started on tennis shoes in rainy weather! Nice parade of squeaks that is, as we're all coming to work.

Okay and about the "holes and slingbacks" not covered by WCB. Hm. What about slides? Like a mule but no strap going around the back of your foot? Very interesting. I think it's less the shoe, and more the lack of proper housekeeping, along with higher workloads, that the work comp people ought to worry about.
